I think they have an "app" now. Hope my rfid card still works seeing as the "app" is currently as useful to me as an ashtray on a motorbike.

These are their new prices

I trust it'll have an excellent cafe on the premises to refuel the customers whilst their cars do likewise 😉🙂

And a gym, where the exercise bikes are generating power to feed into the charging stations!

JIM JIM JIM, It is clear from the last few posts that your future path is defined......buy an AMI.....(White of course)... install a generator on your virtual cycling equipment .......cycle a stage of the Tour then pop round to Robyn for tea in the Ami freshly charged by your ride!!! Brilliant :-D :-D :-D

Cant help thinking the more there are, and the more they look like petrol stations, public perceptions will change.

Me I like to fill up at a scenic location from time to time :-D

I like ;) That could work out well :D It would be ideal for my weekly trip to Tesco too... Maybe ride a historic stage of the Milk Race for that one :)

That's the god thing about charging points - they can be installed almost anywhere...

I see a big future for them in supermarket car parks... Charge whilst you get the shopping in and get Clubcard points too ;)

Hold on, I already get Clubcard points when I fill up with petrol at my favoured supermarket!

Here's an article that doesn't need registration to read:

https://www.theverge.com/2020/12/7/2215 ... -gridserve

And here is a Fully charged video on it:

Interesting to note the company doing this is called "Gridserve" and will also be using a large onsite battery to provide grid storage and balancing services.

It makes sense and it may be the only way to make large rapid charging hubs profitable (outside of selling food etc) - a large onsite battery to "smooth" the high peak demand of charging cars at up to 350kW means that you need a much smaller interconnect to the grid since the grid only needs to supply the average daily use instead of instantaneous peak.

And that battery can be used for grid balancing services when cars aren't charging - drawing energy from the grid at night or when renewable generation is high, and returning power to the grid when renewable generation is low, at peak times and when there isn't much car charging being done.

You need the large battery to smooth the high peak demand of the rapid chargers anyway - so why not make extra profit on the side providing grid balancing services ? It may even make more money than the actual charging. Put a few hundred of these sites around the country and you have a fair bit of distributed grid storage available to help with renewable generation.

This is the kind of rapid charging hub with amenities that I hoped we would see one day, and here is one already.

Also a video by an EV driver who went to the opening day of the first Gridserve site. Includes a walk around inside the building itself.

On my run this morning I was pleased to see someone being sensible and careful in how they ran their charging cable across the pavement to their car :D

It's at row of Victorian terraced cottages with on-road parking only... I expect this sort of arrangement will become more and more common as time goes by...

No hazard at all... My head torch picked it out a perfect treat...
Filling up nicely...

You are obviously running too fast Jim if the residents are having to put out speed bumps on the pavement :-D
