"The market town of Midhurst was where John Wyndham based his terrifying novel The Midwitch Cuckoos. " as quoted in Wiki
Relevant? :-D

Hurrah ! :-D
I think it's fair to say you both got there.
The subject matter is about bunch of apparently human, but defintiely not quite right and rather unsettling insular life forms....... and the aliens in the book are similar as well. :rofl2:

There's plenty blurb on it here
https://christopher-priest.co.uk/essays ... -h-g-wells
[A talk delivered by CP (Christopher Priest) in December 2000, in Midhurst. This West Sussex town is one which has strong associations with both writers, and although their working lives were many years apart John Wyndham and H.G. Wells have much in common, in their lives as well as in their writing. This long article may be downloaded, but may not be uploaded or printed elsewhere.]
You didnt pay your 2/6 and go along to the talk did you Bobins?

I'm an incomer and didn't live here then, so missed out on that talk unfortunately. There's 3 blue plaques in town for Mr Wells, and John Wyndham mentions a (fictional) farmhouse near Storrington in Day Of The Triffids, Storrington not being too many miles from here. :)

As we are going through the FCF Musical Advent Calendar and very much enjoying the selections and currently on D. I thought what did I hear the other day about the most popular artists in 2020. Sure there was one called "Drake" or something.

Obviously one to fall foul of the "band name only" thing, but the most popular music in the world doesn't follow the traditional "band" formula.

So not a Pickled Egg quiz question to ponder ages over, but see how many of these artists/songs in the spotify most streamed lists you have heard of.
Yes me personally while having a wide taste and not entirely 70's and 80's only, well out of touch with whats popular now.

I'll put up an example at the PE jukebox, just incase some youngsters join the FCF, and wander into the Pickled Egg and want to put 10p in the jukebox and select a track.

I have a separate question to ask. How many pieces of curved glass are there in 30 St Mary Axe (otherwise known as The Gherkin)? Closest to the correct answer gets a virtual pint. :D

Well my first reaction to the question was none. The most illogical answer would be none, as it appears to all intents and purposes a structure with many curves.

Now I might well get a Paxmanesque.....NO! but the key in guesswork is never being afraid to miss :-D
