406 injectors stripes

Post by Husseinelhajj »

Hey everyone.
I would like to know the difference between the white-striped and the green-striped injectors? (attached photo below)

No idea. I have changed injectors without reference to the colour - hadn't even noticed there were different ones. Never actually had a 406 injector fail in 10 years. The only possibility I can think of is 2.0 or 2.2 litre.

The coloured bands were sometimes used by manufacturers to identify the flow rates of the injectors, but your problem will be a lot of manufacturers do not use colours.

So I would ignore the colours and make sure you get the correct injector part number for the vehicle / engine concerned, as that is the only way you will ensure you get the correct flow rate for the specific engine. These will likely have a specific code that you can use to programme in to the engine management system if required. This is especially important for todays modern direct injection engines as the tolerances are very small and each injector can be slightly different, so this allows the engine ECU to adjust the flow rate.

After a little bit of digging, i found out that the green striped one fits the 1.8L 16V engine (mine), whilst the white striped one fits the 2.0i 16V engine

Do either of the injectors have part numbers printed on them anywhere?
