Hi
No rush as it's a job I don't relish. It may be NFP or exorbitantly expensive in which case the brazing skills which I don't have will have to be employed...
When changing the oil the other week, I noticed what appeared to be a weep from the hydraulic pipe which goes under the offside wheelarch at its highest point.
Presumably it's the feed pipe to the offside strut though I'm not 100% clear if there is only one pipe in that area?

Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
Would this be the brake pipe, or the steel section of the fluid return pipe from the front strut?

Here's the frons suspension supply piping for your Xantia:
If it's one of these let us know the item number, so we can get you the part number.
VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] for Chris in case I'm out later.

I was going to say that I’ve no idea.white exec wrote: ↑14 Sep 2020, 10:59 Would this be the brake pipe, or the steel section of the fluid return pipe from the front strut?
But your question combined with the piccy Marc sent now leads me to believe it is a return pipe.
Please Marc can I have some more? I’m pretty sure it will be the low pressure side.

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
This is the part, for the return piping . . .
As the return piping is only low pressure, if there's a damaged section/leak in the steel pipe, it could simply be replaced with a rubber section.
As an aside, I like the way the returns are organised here. No more BX 'octopus'!

Cheers Chris. I take it that the thin black lines with circles on the end are steel and the rubber pipe looks like, well err!, rubber pipe?white exec wrote: ↑14 Sep 2020, 12:06 This is the part, for the return piping . . .

The drawings don't inspire any confidence. I'd sort of have a stab at no.6 but as you say, low pressure so a rubber piece will suffice.
I'll double check before I torch the car...
I agree with you on the Octopus. Wonderful invention. I'm sure I've got a brand new one somewhere!

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
The thin solid lines are steel pipes, but there is still the rubber section actually clamped on to the suspension strut.
This rubber pipe takes off upwards, and connects to the steel pipe fixed to the upper wheel arch.

I know of the rubber return pipes you speak of. They usually split. Strange how they do not appear on the return pipe diagram then?
I still need to make time to get under the car and have a proper look. It's always easier to take it up to my mate's and get it on a 2 post ramp rather than faffing around at home although it is an hour round trip to my mate's...

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
The rubber return pipe from the strut to the steel pipe above is around 30cm long, and can be got to by simply kackimg that corner of the car up, letting the wheel hang, snd removing the wheel.

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
Can't beleive I've done nothing with this in two months.
And now I am heading out for some rubber pipe. How best is it to cut the pipe and prevent any detritus from entering the return pipe that might savage some internals somewhere?
Also, it states pipe is 4.5mm. Presumably that is the outside diameter. What is the usual fix? 5mm ID pipe with a couple of tiny petrol jubilee clamps?

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
if you buy 4mm silicone hose from that bay , it will go on lovely with a couple of small clips.

Re: Xantia HDi Front Offside Hydraulic Pipe
Try to avoid worm/jubilee-type clips on small pipes like these. Better to use a decently circular hose clip - the sort that are nipped up with a pair of pincers. Plenty of assorted sizes boxed-kits on Amazon.
It's not the sort of pipe that you'll need to regulatly undo, hopefully.

I've edited this thread's title to remove the "Can I have a Part..." element, as every time there is a reply, I keep thinking this is a request for a another part.
