What Coolant???

Post by Adam82 »

Hi,
I've been looking on the internet and multiple forums. I just cannot find any clear or exact specifications of coolant I need for my car.
Not even the owner's book has it, it just ses…

Fluid specification
The coolant must conform to the
manufacturer's recommendations.

Brilliant…

My car is a C5 X7 2.0 diesel, RHH, 165PS.
What ready mix coolants have you all used in the past after replacing the cambelt and waterpump?

Thanks in advance.

Its yellow? I know that much. I just go to Sprint or AutoPro at Kadina, and the guy behind the counter looks it up in this big massive folder that has Citroen on the front? He has folders for every damn car out there, which he gets from out the back. My friend got a replacement part for his 1949 Rambler Nash coupe, from AutoPro Kadina, which I think is pretty cool! The store used to be a really old garage going back to the 1920's, that used to service old cars like Chevorlets, and Simca's and Pontiacs and Humbers. You can still see the original paintwork sign (its really faded but still visible) and the original owner had some kind of hoarding disorder (OCD) and he just saved all this stuff until one day he dropped dead from old age. His sons (both in their 70's) took over. You can find parts for anything from a Kero heater wick to a wringer washing machine pump or valves for the old radios. Its there in the back along with a 1963 Volvo 2 door Coupe, covered in 27 layers of tarp, that i am desperate to get a hold of.

Looking on the Total Lubricants website for UK cars, they recommend their own Ethylene Glycol based 'GLACELF AUTO SUPRA' coolant - either ready mixed or mix it yourself. Comma oils recommend their Xstream G30 (the 'G' being Glysantin, which is a trade name of BASF. Glysantin features in a lot of different antifreezes). G30 is an "Ethylene glycol based antifreeze & coolant with OAT (Organic Additive Technology) inhibitors."
There are no standards on what colour an antifreeze is or should be, so you cannot compare colours to see if it's the right antifreeze or not.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

If you go to Halfords website they have a search engine which directs you to the correct coolant for your make of vehicle. See: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/advic ... r-car.html
I'm not saying to buy it at Halfords, but it gives an idea as to what to look for.

The coolant for that car is G33 especially made for PSA but this has since been updated to what I don't know. G33 is no longer available from Citroen.

The closed available for that engine is G30 which all most the exact same.

This is the coolant I use.

As long as it is as close the PSA recommendations it should be fine.

I use standard ethylene glycol coolant, rather than organic acid type: PSA's own "Pro" coolant. Not expensive, and avoids mixing types, brands, etc. It's blue, and leaves a helpful white deposit (and the distinctive smell of Fernox) in the case of a leak.

Tyres, oils, fuels, coolants - everyone has their favourite, and always "the best" !

Hi all,
Thanks for all your comments I'll go with,
Comma XSM5L 5L Xstream G30 Antifreeze and Coolant Ready Mixed - Grey
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0052X4DOE/

Two bottles should do it, I've seen on a few sites the system takes over 10 liters. I'll top up with DI.
