206cc pollution fault

Post by moizeau »

Salut à tous.
Just plugged a mates 206cc into Diag to investigate but I can't find 206cc in the list, so I chose 206 and it threw up P0402, Catalytic Converter, local, perm, Ageing. During the fault check there are a lot of ECU's not recognised. (It finds the VIN) which is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. When I try to clear the fault it gives me a list of ECUs to choose from (because it doesn't know which one is fitted). I'm wondering whether I'm choosing the correct variant of 206, it gives me a choice of '206', '206mux' and '206+' or my version of Diag (7.57) is too recent?
Can anyone shed some light please? Apparently it had a new cat and has done 2500 miles since with no issues.
Pete

i have been diagnosing a 206cc recently. Peugeot planet was needed (which is an option within my diag thingy) it didn't matter whether I picked the first or second of the three models! (this car is 2000 year)

I have to remove and plug in the interface just before i select the PP I think. every time. A global test finds the ECU ok, a specific test brought up a list and i got into bother a bit..

hope that's helpful

Thanks John. On older cars it usually gives me a choice of PP or Diagbox. On this 2003 model it doesn't so I can only presume that Diagbox is compatible? I have since cleared to fault after going through the different ECUs offered and picking one that had the same fault explanation as the Global Fault check. The code hasn't come back after several drives in the same situation as the initial occurrence. I'm hoping it was a one off due to it being parked up next the sea for 3 weeks and a bit of moisture has got in somewhere???

Diagbox won't launch on a 2003 - Diagbox should launch Peugeot Planet.

It should look for the VIN, but will require you to enter the RPO or DAM number first, and usually relies on you first selecting the correct model variant from the initial model list. Getting this part right is essential or it won' be using the correct database for the ECUs.

What engine is in it? Is it running normally apart from the light being on?
Why was the cat replaced? was it just blown/rotted or an emissions fault?
First thing you want to do with a fault like this is look at the live data of the oxygen sensors, Make sure the engine has been running for at least 10 minutes. The upstream sensor should constantly fluctuate between 100mV - 800mV. The down stream should stay pretty much fixed somewhere between 100-800mV, if the downstream is doing the same as the upstream it means the cat isn't working. Cheap aftermarket cats can have a reputation of not working very well as they usually have a ceramic monolith hence why they are so cheap compared to originals.

Thanks Marc and Wheeler, When I click on the Diagbox icon it launches Diagbox, on older cars I've connected up it gives you the choice, but this one doesn't. It gives me a choice of 206, 206MUX and 206+ in the model list after choosing Pug then 206.
Wheeler, It ran fine when the MIL was lit and still does now I've cleared it, and it hasn't come back on. The cat was replaced because the exhaust was showing signs of rot, so the whole lot was done.
Thanks for the info on the oxy sensors, I'll have a look at those next week when I go round to put a trailer socket on his Mule. Where would I find them ,as in menu tree?
Thanks again, I really want to sort it (not that it's broken at the moment) or put his mind at ease. The owner is my mate who delivered Rich's van to me gratis.

Once you are in the injection menu look for parameters measurements or live data. Depending on what ecu is fitted there may be a sub menu of exhaust/emissions or words to that effect. Cant remember the exact wording without it in front of me.

The variations relate to the different models (206 or 206 T3) and the type of multiplexing used.

The light has come back on and he's got an MOT retest tomorrow (not relating to this issue, it didn't exist for the first try). He'll call via mine in the morning and I'll clear the fault, hopefully it stays off for the MOT. Then I'll have a look at the oxy sensor readings. I've been on a French site that says if it has a 2 button fob and radio controls on the stalks it's a MUX, I think that was the one I didn't try.....
No doubt I'll be back with more questions on this one.

Re: 206cc pollution fault

Cleared the fault this morning, light out, retest passed.
After the clerical work was done I had another look at reading the car properly using 206MUX. I opened PP and it asked for a DAM, 9888, then it told me that a DLL file called SHBD45 couldn't be opened? Don't know if it's corrupted, missing or what?
Went back in using 206+ which I know is wrong but it does let me in using DIAGBOX. The MIL is still off but the fault code is logged. Went in to the Injection ECU, which gave me a list of possibles, and I chose ME745 (only because it states the correct fault and allows me to clear it) Then went to Std Parameters, then Emissions.

These are the figures:
Upstream Lambda 'ACTIVE'
Upstream Oxy ~ goes between 0.1 and 0.7 volts
Downstream Lambda 'INACTIVE'
Downstream Oxy ~ stays at a constant 0.5 volts
Upstream Mixture 'CLOSED LOOP'
Downstream Mixture 'OPEN LOOP'

Checked the temp ~ 84 degrees

So the questions are:
What's going on with this 'missing' file and can it be sorted easily so I can get into the car's systems correctly?
Do these figures shout anything to the trained eye?

The fault still reads 'Cat Ageing'. I'll get my mate to contact the mech who fitted it to see if he can remember what he fitted? (No receipts were involved as this was done in the works workshop during the first lockdown)

Cheers

He found a receipt for the cat, 90 squids with VAT, no make written down just the headed letter from the supplier which was a local dealer and not ECP.
Forgot to mention the above data was at 740rpms / tickover.

Had another look today to see if anything else has reared it's head....no, just the same as before.
Judging by the figures the live data gave and wheeler's predictions everything looks OK. Could there be something else flagging this fault?
Cheers
