Removing rear door handle Citroen C5 2006

Post by nicko252 »

Hi. I have a stuck rear driver side door on my C5 so have taken off the door card so as to remove the exterior door handle(to get a shot at the lock mechanism). I have removed the single nut from the interior side of the handle but not sure how to get the handle assembly out. I've tried prying it off from the outside but doesn't want to come and the handle surrounds threaten to break. Any tips on how to get it out appreciated. Cheers.

According to the manual you have to remove the lock first to get at the handle but there is on here somewhere a picture I posted of the lock with pointers to how to unlock it by pulling the correct links.
I'll try to find it.

I've got a new lock sitting on the shelf here I think.

Thanks for that. So your lock looks different to mine even though you have a 2006 C5. Mine is a hatchback so maybe that's the diff? Anyway, my question was more about getting the handle off, which doesn't require the lock to be involved at all. It's just a question of how to physically get it out of the door once the retaining nut has been removed from the inside. That may be a diff process than with your model though. Thanks again for the input though.

The manual says to remove the lock first to get access to the handle.

The precise wording is: Remove the lock, no need to take it out of the door, lay it in the bottom, undo the inner cover retaining nut, then using a screwdriver through the lock aperture, slide the aluminium inner cover forwards and manoeuvre the handle assembly from the door. Refitting is a reversal of the procedure.

Ps. my first reply was to the fact that the door was stuck which I thought meant it wouldn't unlock by the normal means.

Thanks again for all that. With my model (and with the door stuck as it is, un-openable) there is no way to get at the lock mechanism. When the door card is off you can get access to the front of lock from inside the car, but that's no use as the crucial bit is at the rear of the lock. Apparently, the trick is to get the exterior handle off so you can get access to the critical bit of the lock from outside through the hole where the outside handle sits. What i am trying to do is get the exterior handle out. There is a nut on the inside which I have removed, but i am having trouble getting the handle out.

I had this happen once on my C5 Mk1. What seems to have happened is that, when I locked her, the rear door wasn't fully closed, but closed enough to fool the locking system (and it was not visibly obvious). Then she would not unlock that door. I got lucky in that I tried leaning on the door while triggering the lock, and it worked; that door then unlocked, and the problem never happened again.

Thanks for that suggestion. Have tried those tricks and no luck, unfortunately. Cheers.
