C3 picasso steering wheel angle sensor

Post by Wawpeyo »

Hi, and thanks on reading this post.
I have the ESP light on, on diagbox the only fault its U1105 steering angle sensor, no communication, on the menu to check the sensor it shows faulty,,0 degrees, left and not register the movement of the steering.
Accelerometer gyroscope shows some lateral acceleration when stationary, i believe it eas 0.5 m/s but cant really remember.
On trying to calibrate, gyroscope shows calibration succesful, but steering wheel sensor says was not calibrated, a calibration procedure was started but not finished, wait until it finish to calibrate, but its always like that.
replaced the com2005 for other however the com ecu was not recognized, but the sensor is apart inside the com unit and looked the same, same fault anyway.
Started to strip some wiring, to find out if it can be a wiring fault, but any comments appreciated

It is essential that you have fitted the correct Steering Wheel Control Module (Comm Unit). Although these may look the same, they are different depending on model, electronic architecture of the vehicle, options, year etc. There can be hundreds of variants across the range, so is essential to fit the correct one. If the module you fitted is not the same part number and is for a different electrical architecture then the BSI won't talk to the module.

Hi, Marc , thanks for the answer yes i know that, but as the sensor is a separate entity inside the com, i gave it a try, bsi not talk to com2000, but all systems worked , but as i said, same fault, i had the car like that with no info about, so maybe they already changed the com unit. Or anything like that

If you were to post the vehicle VIN here (which will, for security reasons, be obscured so only forum staff can read it) it will be possible for a member of forum staff to look up your vehicle and see exactly what she had when she rolled out of the factory. Because of the way the PSA group now charges the forum (for access to their database) you may be asked to make a donation to the forum, but that should then cover you for two years of searches.

Yes not a problem, i dont think that sharing a VIN will affect safety at all, its sticked in your windscreen so anybody can see it.
Just a small point, no problems with the donation ,be kind , but just send me the mail so i can do it from my own paypal, y dont like the links. VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

A drawing with the cable numbers will help i believe, i disconnected the plugs to try and find them, but they have too many things on them.
As example the steering end of the can have a visible alpha433 reference which i can see in a plug on the bsi, but on bsi end also have a more coherent just number visible, no continuity, so maybe the fault or maybe the wrong wire, without a drawing, may i have to start cutting the tape to see

Ok, so what exactly do you want - I'm, not clear from your post?

Do you want the correct Steering Wheel Module Part number?

If so, then the original PSA part number is 6242PK. This has since been replaced with a new part number: 98062014XT

Both are available from here for £180 (new) or £100 (reconditioned).

https://peugeotpartsforsale.com/index.p ... egory_id=0

But 98062014XT is the later part number.

6242PK is the PSA part number and 96643943XT may well be the external part number, but 98062014XT is the modified / latest part for your comms unit.

Well a fast search on google said is the right one, as i said before, i have all disconnected so a drawing with the cable numbers will be helpful to discard wiring before i get in buying a new expensive part, the fault in diagbox is only U1105 so or is the sensor or is the wiring right?

It's not that simple I'm afraid.

There is no unique wiring diagram for the Comms Unit. As it is a multifunction device it has many connections - but mostly via CAN wiring to the other systems, so for example with regard to the immobiliser, you will only see an earth, an battery positive and 2 multiplexed CAN wires (High and low speed) - and the same for the lighting. So that won't tell you anything.

I don't think it may even be the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor itself - these are pretty reliable to be honest. Let's look at the fault code descriptors:
Fault Code: U1105

Description of Fault: Absence of communication with the steering wheel angle sensor: No signal. Steering wheel angle sensor absent; Fault confirmation time: 0,1 s.

Conditions for Fault to clear: Front door exterior opening control handle; Vehicle speed higher than 20 km/h.

Warning Messages: ESP/ASR indicator lamp, Message, Audible beep.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Immediate cutting out of all of the stability control ESP regulation functions

Symptoms: Loss of control of the vehicle, no regulation of under-steer or over-steer, Deviation of vehicle on braking, Minimal locking of wheels in conditions of poor grip, Wheel slip.

Suspect Areas: Electrical harnesses, Flywheel angle sensor, Connectors, Fuse (Flywheel angle sensor), BSI

You can check the fuses in the passenger compartment lower row:

F4: Steering wheel angle sensor, air conditioning, clutch switch, particle filter pump, diagnostic socket, airflow meter.
F10: Steering Wheel Controls

I suspect F4 will be fine as you would notice if the other features were not working, but F10 may be worth a look and also Maxi Fuse MF1 & MF2 which are concerned with the ABS / ESP systems.

CHeck your flywheel angle sensor (has anything been done on the engine / wheels lately where a wheel sensor / cable connection or any connectors to the ESP ECU have been disturbed? Check all these things first.

But - if youhave removed and or replaced the steering control module, then it has to be calibrated correctly - this can be tricky and best left to a dealer to do if you aren't getting it right.
