C5 X7 reverse gear lock not working

Post by davoxx »

Have a 2008 C5 X7 2.0HDi which just got a clutch a DMF change.

Now it keeps going into reverse instead of first as the collar seems to be always engaged? It didn't do this before.
The clutch specialist who changed the clutch, says the issue is at the stick.

What could have gone wrong and is it an easy fix?
why?

Take it back to them - they've obviously bu**ered it up doing the job in the first place.

They've probably damaged or disconnected the cables / reverse gear cable on the gearbox clutch housing:

I think you are right.
I've spoken to him and he claims that the issue is at the gearstick end.
Just want to be sure that it can not pop off there first before I had back to him?

How can I take the gear stick end apart and have a look?
why?

The gear knob just pulls off - but be warned it will be very tight, so don't face down as you pull, or you'll lose your teeth as it takes a hell of a lot of pull to get it off (no twisting needed). The chrome trim surrounding the gear lever and gaiter just lifts off with trim tools, which should give you a better look inside.

Thanks for that tip on the knob, would have knocked myself out if I didn't know about it.

I took it off, saw nothing out of order, but it's working now. I guess it must have gotten caught somehow.

Thanks for your help!
