Probably showing my ignorance here but they look like soda stream cartridges or air gun cartridges to me? What do you think they are Steve?

I thought they were CO2 cartridges for an airsoft gun, I was going to say it was a good shot

As there are no cycle or gun shops anywhere nearby my assumption is that they are cylinders of nitrous oxide, often used at raves.
While legal to use, it is illegal to sell them.

Sons carry similar to rapidly reinflate cycle tyres. Eldest has an air rifle that can use them but he has a scuba diving kit and uses the cylinder from that to recharge the gun.

An odd place to find so many of them.

Looks like someone has been having fun if these are what I think they are.

Nitrous Oxide canisters interned for cream foaming machines but repurposed by the yoof of today to get a legal high...

I see loads of them on my morning runs...

We cyclists were once held to blame as they look similar to the 16g CO2 canisters we use for tyre inflation... The key difference is that ours have a threaded boss on the neck whereas the NO2 canisters have no thread.

And, there is no way we'd ever leave them to litter after use of use so many in one session... One 16g canister will happily inflate one bike tyre to 100psi... If you need two you are in serious trouble!

I have no idea at all Steve... Logically, I agree, CO2 should be just as good...

Maybe NO2 makes the cream frothier

Vividly remember my last dose of it. Tooth extraction. Got out of the chair and missed the door, walked straight into the wall.
Had my dad's brand new 1100. Had to wait half an hour before I dared get in it and even then driving home was a worry.

That would be 1964/5.

I think I was given a dose in the ambulance when I dislocated my ankle falling off the steps (which gave way) and couldn't move. It was round the back of my workshop at the time where I'd been clearing the gutter one Saturday morning. I had my mobile so was able to call for the ambulance but they couldn't find me and the landlord, not knowing I was there, sent them away!! Fortunately I came to just as they were about to leave and yelled Help!! and all was well. Put an end to my motorcycling and general legwork exercise though and I have been driving autos ever since!!

The three swans was the subtle clue for that poser Peter solved by Mick and James on the quiz thread

Indeed it is Hungerford, and a historic Inn the Three Swans with plenty to get your teeth into here if you like a bit of history.

The place name Sarum on the milepost is a name for Salisbury I had not come across before. With the Three Swans being halfway-ish between Oxford and Salisbury.
