Did he mean what he said?

Post by mickthemaverick »

This thread is for those misquotes and bad grammar that crop up from time to time causing a smile or a smirk to the reader!!

To start off a quote from F1.com website reporting on what the race director said about Friday's weather conditions stopping running:

While frustrating for the teams, drivers and spectators, Race Director Michael Masi explained: "From an FIA perspective the safety of all the participants, particularly of the drivers coming out is paramount and that’s not something we will not compromise."

Excuse me?...

Speaking of F1 stuff, it was Murray Walker's 97th birthday recently...

he was well known for an 'interesting' turn of phrase every now and again ;)

F1 has never been the same since he gave up commentating... A legend in his own lifetime :)

Or David Coleman describing Cuban athlete Alberto Juantoreno - ".....and now he's opened his legs and showed his class!"

I've just remembered Ted Lowe's classic commentary on the snooker just after colour TV was launched. It went something like, in his low whispering tones, "...and he can screw back onto the brown which, for those of you still watching in black and white, is the ball just below the blue." :-D

This REALLY did happen!

Years ago I had arrived at a client site to resolve an IT issue. The guy on reception put out a call for the store manager. I made a start on the paperwork (call number, client address, etc.), as it would need to be done and would take time. After a few minutes the guy on reception said "I hate it when nobody listens to me". I replied "Sorry, what was that?". My brain then caught up with my ears, and I had to apologise again!
