DS5 2012 2.0 163bhp rear bumper

Post by uniD »

Hello everyone,

I need some help if anyone is willing to give me a hand.
Someone crash into the rear bumper and the garage that was dealing with the repairs actually did more damage than the accident itself, and it’s a major dealership, not a simple small garage, and the job was very easy, just a bumper replacement as the damage was minimal.
They installed the bumper improperly, did damage to taillights, and left a gap in between the bumper and the boot door.
Now, they kinda admitted it’s not ok, but they they say the gap in between the door and bumper is normal and I don’t believe so.
I’ll try to attach a photo and could anyone with a similar car could send me a photo or anyone that is 100% that the gap there isn’t normal could give me a heads up pls?
Hope you can tell what’s the problem from the pictures I took.

Hi

That certainly is NOT right. However, it might be possible that the dealer is not a body repair specialist and the accident you had may have caused more damage than is visible. Specifically, that the rear impact has warped the metal frame and this may be why the dealer can't get it to fit properly.

Ideally, you should of had an insurance assessor look at it and they would of authorised a proper inspection and repair at a body specialist.

So it may not be the dealers fault if they have just been asked to fit it and cannot because of a structural fault.

Here are a few pictures of a 2012 DS5 that show the same areas and as you can see it fits properly.

So maybe not fair to blame the dealer to be honest if they have just been asked to supply and fit a part - but are unable to do so properly for an issue outside of their control.

The insurance company sent me to this dealership and they have a fully equipped body shop.
They told me there was no damage done to the impact frame underneath, but the damage they did is shocking.
Do you know by chance if the original bumper comes in with all the chrome pieces as a single unit? They only replaced the actual plastic bumper, but I have a feeling something isn’t right.

Ps: I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures the gaps in between the tail lights and the bumper, and that’s not all 😳

Ok, so your only option is if you have followed the advice from your insurance company, then you must reject the repair as unsatisfactory. All repair work should be guaranteed.

Don't at this stage do anything yourself - stick with the insurance company and deal with then directly as they have referred you to that garage.

Have a look at the Financial Ombudsman (for UK), so not sure where you are in Ireland and whether this applies or not, but you may have an equivalent, but this section has some useful info on options in the UK if your vehicle repairs are not up to standard or where moire damage has been caused as a result:

https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ ... le-repairs

As for chrome fittings, ignore the large chrome strip in my pictures - this was from a company that make those protectors for the boot sill and are not standard Citroen equipment. AS for general chrome trim, these are usually available separately (like the logos and badges and strips - it depends which part you are referring to. Put a picture up of the bit you are asking about. But at the end of the day the car has to be returned to you in the condition it was in prior to the accident.

Oh the chrome pieces I was referring too were the exhaust bits, but I found out they all come separately. I only got the bumper replaced, as they told me the damage was minimal.

I just had time today to inspect the car and I’m speechless. Went to the garage and showed them the car, both tail lights have damage, because they didn’t take off the lights or loosened them up, even the clear coat was damaged when they took off the bumper, and the bumper itself is horribly out of place.
They will call me in to strip it down again, but I don’t think they will ever fit properly.
I’ll put the pictures here, if you have time to take a look and give an opinion if the parts will properly fit or will I need new parts.
They told me they will do the best they can :))

That's a terrible job. If it were me I would reject it and give it back to them for a chance to fix it. If still unhappy - reject it and get an independent report on the work and take it up with the insurance company - you do not have to put up with sub-standard repairs, it's why you pay your premiums in the first place.

There's something coming up on Radio 4's Money Box shortly about how insurance companies can have cars repaired badly (paraphrasing there). Might be worth hunting it out.

Just listened to the programme. It doesn't apply here as it concerns repairs done by the at-fault party's insurance company, not your own.

And it's probably different in Ireland anyway.

Thank you guys for all the help. The car is going back to the dealership and I’ve told them I will only settle with a job done properly.
I wished them all the best of luck trying to put everything back together after all the damage they caused. They actually made more damage than the accident itself 🤬

Just posted the photo of the initial damage, just to have a idea what happed and that kind of mess they created 🙁

I told the dealership to re-check everything for damage.
They will take the car back tomorrow.
