Xantia versus ZX

I now own 2 ZX turbo diesels and I have the opportunity to sell one for a Xantia 2.0 HDI, LX (110B.H.P.)with aircon., hatchback , sept.r 1999,T. reg. 80k miles, main dealer service his.y.
I was wondering if the xantia seats on this model were as comfortable as the ZX Volcane. Also is the Xantia a better drive than the ZX? I'm afraid of parting with a ZX thats relatively cheap to run but if the seating in the Xantia are compatible then I would really like the aircon. I also suppose the maintenance costs on the Xantia would have to be considered. Any replies gratefully received![8D]

As far a being a better drive than the ZX goes, not sure myself...think ZX's are more 'involving' and fun than the Xantia. I personaly, have found few cars that I've drive to handle as well as the ZX, although my parents Seat Leon comes close.

I have both vehicles and the ZX is more responsive and much more fun to drive. I would recommend the ZX if it had Aircon, ABS, Airbags and the brilliant gearbox of the Xantia HDI.
My Xantia has a few niggles, I've got a noisy hyd pump and the key no longer works the alarm and central locking.
I use the ZX for commuting to work whilst the Xantia is the wifes runabout and we use it for longer trips.

Xantia is more stylish and has "gimmick" suspension.
ZX less likely to leave stains where it sits!

Xantia hs better ride courtesy of hydropnumatic suspension and is quieter, well, quieter than my wifes ZX td estate, in which the engine can be heard at low speeds, but has considerably more to go wrong and is more difficult to work on.

i had that dilemma a while back had to choose between xantia 1.9td and a zx td volcane ,i picked the xantia for it's comfort although the zx was a faster and better handling car ,that was about a year ago now and i've not regretted my choice ,i sold the zx to my brother and he loves it for the great handling so i suppose it depends on what you are looking for.

Thankfully, mine only has the whoopee cushion out of these unneccessary gimmicks, which I cannot really do much about.[:(] For a non-oleo car, I find the ZX suspension really excellent.

I prefer the Xantia because of one main reason:
- HDi engine (silence, economy, performance)
And a few other not so important reasons:
- Style
- Space
- Safety (mk2)
- Parking sensor
- Rain sensor
- Possibility of raise the suspension to pass obstacles
- Leather seats comfort
- Suspension comfort
- Factory sound system
I agree the ZX is especially better on:
- Handling
- Maintenance costs
- Parking in the city
The HDi really makes a difference!

It's not clear whether you've considered what you need from a Xant, how much you want to get involved in maintenance, whether the size and other advantages will outweigh the extra complexity, etc. I've owned a ZX and loved its handling, am restoring a BX and like its style, and enjoy Xant comfort and size.

The LX was the base model, you'll be missing a lot of the toys the Volcane has.
Not sure about the Volcane seats but the standard Xantia seats were some of the worst Citroen seats ever. And an LX won't have height adjustment for the drivers seat.
It also won't have ABS which I would say is a must for a first time hydraulic Cit owner. OK we got away with it on the GS and BX etc. but often only just.[B)]
On the plus side the HDi was the best all round engine fitted to the Xantia, it has more space than a ZX, the trim is a bit better quality than the ZXs I have come across and the ride is a world apart from any steel sprung car, roads I thought were smooth suddenly spout huge craters when driven on in a non-hydraulic car.
One more thing. Beware - you may get hooked.
