Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I used to love Eccles cakes Neil and I still would if I could find suitable vegan ones
The butter in them would do for me but I cannot imagine any Eccles cake made with anything but butter would hit the spot. An Eccles cake made with a vegan butter substitute wouldn't be an Eccles cake would it?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The little borders village cant claim Eccles Cakes, thats the Eccles near Manchester, I thought it was a bit odd that the transmission line would head north into Northumberland and then take a turn and go down to Manchester when I first saw Eccles on the Line Name.

Sorry to say that 'Eccles' doesn't remind me of cakes, -- it's The Goon Show for me!!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
If Eccles Cakes were to receive protected status (in that they had to be made in Eccles to be called Eccles cakes) they would probably die out, as there are no major producers in Eccles making them.

Thats multiple choice so not too difficult, and with a correspondant in Dorset thought it would be really easy.NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 15:22 As the power transmission lines make their way across the Southern England the line sections are Dungeness-Ninfield-Bolney-Lovedean-Mannington-Chickerell-Axminster-Exeter.

As well as being one of the small places of disproportionate significance on the National Electricity Transmission Grid
Chickerell (hands up if anyone has ever heard of it/been there) is the home of the National Plant Collection of Water Lillies.

My wife worked in the confectionery department of a Birmingham bakery, she used to come home with cream in her hair where the girls fooling around with a cream horn filler fired it at each other, she told me that the Eccles cakes were filled with the droppings from the floor when they cleaned up at the end of the shift.

I thought they used dead flies as the filling for Eccles cakes ? Surely floor sweepings go in to make Bombay mix ?
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

No my mum always told me the flies went in the garibaldi biscuits which we have always called "flies graveyards"

I can't remember the name of it but mincemeat between layers of pastry, cut into squares, always used to be known as 'fly pasty'
Dubbed 'fly graveyard' here:

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Well done Mick, sorry to follow it up with a this remarkable picture from our trip out today.
I do believe its a first for the FCF. The thing on the left is of course a French cow's backside (it's a Limousin), but on the right is an ornithological delight and something normally only seen up in North Scotland. Highlight of the day!
Regards Neil
