508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
Hi folks,
I have a 2011 508 GT 2.2HDI and for the past few days not been feeling the GT factor, it feels if though the car is restricted. There are no warning lights and the car runs fine otherwise.
I have scanned the Engine ECU with Daigbox and found the P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault.
Fault code details:
Atmospheric Pressure is 20995 mbar
Turbocharging Pressure is 2420 mbar
Turbocharger Pressure Setting is 30218 mbar
Accelerator Pedal Position is 132%
Airflow is 296 mg/impulse
I have cleaned both the Air Temperature and Air Pressure Sensors on the intake manifold (both were oily) but still no luck.
Please can someone give me pointers as to where to start from.
Thanks in Advance

Hi, and to the Forum,
Something that will help is if you post up the VIN here (which will, for security reasons, be obscured so only forum staff can read it). Then Forum staff can look up your vehicle, and then see exactly WHAT your vehicle had when she rolled out of the factory.

Ok, so you have the DW12C engine with Bosch Injection ECU.scotcruz wrote: ↑26 Sep 2020, 21:01 Hi folks,

Fault Code: Fault P0299 the Charge pressure regulation: Air pressure below the reference value. Description of Fault: It happens where there is a positive discrepancy of 300 to 600 mbar between the turbo pressure setting and the turbo pressure measured (for at least 5 seconds). It occurs during Turbocharger pressure regulation. Conditions for Fault to clear: 3 decelerations passing through these conditions, without a recurrence Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: When this code is active the Turbo is changed to "controlled turbo" mode. which is probably why it has lost some welly. Also, there is deactivation of the vehicle cruise control, until the disappearance of the fault. It will reset when the fault disappears and you can use it again - until the fault reoccurs again though. Forced DPF regeneration is also prohibited via the diagnostic tool whilst he fault is active. The Engine Management Light will also come on. Symptoms: Noise Smoke from the exhaust Lack of power Jerking/stalling Starting problem Fluid leak/smells (diesel fuel, oil, etc.) Engine overheating with illumination of the engine coolant temperature indicator light Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher Unwanted acceleration Suspect Areas: Turbocharging pressure sensor Oil sump Lubrication circuit of the turbocharger Oil strainer Air flow meter Air cleaner Engine oil Air line between turbocharger and mixers Air line between mixer and engine Oil pump Turbocharger air cooler Turbocharger Position indicator of the turbocharger Exhaust gas recycling valve Exhaust gas recirculation valve repeat Electrical harness Connector |

Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
Thank you.. thats a long list but good starting point.
I have cleaned the MAF too.. so would need to check the live readings. Any idea where I can get the standard readings of the sensors involved for what does good look like?
Also, I have been looking at the diagrams on service box but cannot locate the turbocharging pressure sensor? Just need to start from the top of the list and go through process of elimination.
In the meantime, if anyone has got ideas so I can focus on the possible cause, it will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
I have checked the turbo readings.
Turbocharging pressure reference value us 1043 mbar
Turbocharging pressure measured is 990 mbar
Atmospheric pressure is 1005 mbar
This was at Idle.. does that mean turbocharger boost valve is faulty?

Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
You can't tell much at idle, as the ECU is not requesting any significant boost. You need to put some load on the engine to get the reference value a bit higher.
Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
OK, so after cleaning the Turbocharger boost sensor and clearing the code at the weekend, I have driven the car and scanned twice and the fault hasn't appeared again? Although the car is still sluggish.. its not the limp mode as I am getting the revs but not the GT umph..
Any thought?
I will do a forced regeneration on my drive on Thursday (rain tomorrow) and revert

Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
So the regeneration takes place as it should. (I had to delete the P0299 code to let regeneration take place)
I have noticed that the P0299 only shows up when the car is driven over 2500 rpm (definitely at 3000rpm)
Any idea what vacuum pipes I need to check? I noticed that the hoses to the intercooler is a bit loose.. is this meant to be loose? The top ones which are not the typical screw on ones are also loose (looks like they are loose by design)
Please can someone help?

Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
Hello,
I have the same issue with my Citroen C5 2.2 hdi 204 hp. I changed the electronic actuator but no luck. The strangest thing is that sometimes the turbo works but only at higher revs (above 2500). The turbo gives no symptoms: no whistling, no smoke.
Has anyone figured out the issue?
Next week I will try other things and will post here if I manage to fix this mystery.

Any updates please? Same issue with my 508 GT..2.2hdi version. Thank you all
Re: 508 GT - P0299 Turbocharger pressure regulation fault
No update really.. with that and the oil leaks I got fed up and sold the car.
