I can't understand the problem, I just let it do its thing and it works fine, I use Windows 10 and Edge and haven't had a problem since it arrived and the updates have never given me grief.

I get the feeling computer buffs (geeks) are like religious folk, Catholic/Protestant - Microsoft/Ubunti, you must be one or the other. :-D

You have indeed been fortunate gibbo. Its like having a non-leaking X7 Steering Rack, while all around you have a literal and metaphorical constant weep!

I always do the same as you, just let it do its thing, but yesterday it threw up a couple of error codes and failed. Google the fixes, try a few....fails again...google more fixes try a few fails again, repeat, repeat... and enjoy a few hours of irritation and frustration.

No doubt the registry needs cleaning or some other such gubbins, some files may be missing (well when you find a missing file that you need for the update "windows update", just delete/create/repair as necessary as part of the update, dont expect me to do it! The error codes, about as useful as "error code 123456789xyz-windows update failed"

I remember, in the past, getting Windows error messages that just said "An error has occurred". True but useless; typically Microsoft.

It's well-documented that previous updates (including the last W10 2004) 'fix' actually broke a lot of things, caused blue screens, failure of USB devices and other hardware to work, as well as other networking and security problems that you may not be aware of if you don't use them.

I recently rolled back an 'update' because it was not fit for purpose and prior to that had to do a complete clean install because of some W10 issues. I have now blocked ALL updates, until I am sure it is safe to put them on. The last update killed my VM network configuration, so had to set them up again. It's things like this that may not affect typical users that are infuriating for others. MS quality control is getting worse, so I have a block to prevent any and all Windows updates, allowing me some peace of mind. When they have been out for a good few months, I see what the reaction is before deciding to apply them or not....

JUNK MAIL

As from today all Junk Mail that is delivered here will have our address crossed out in red, be marked return to sender in red felt tip and put back in the post box. I am fed up putting unopened letters in the recycling and therefore completely wasting both trees and manpower. I believe that if enough of us start doing it we will eventually get the likes of Danbury Mint and John Mills etc to give up sending out unsolicited mail!! If anyone agrees please join in and maybe someone who uses Facebook, which I don't, could post a similar suggestion on there and get a bigger participation. Look what Major Tom did!!!!

One of my trade mates kept getting junk mail from one company, then they made the mistake of sending him a pre-paid label to reply, he'd just fitted a new brake drum to a truck he was working on so he stuck the old drum in the box and popped the label on it and sent it on its way.

My contribution to 101 is
Anything Hydraulic.
In the past few weeks, I have rebuilt the brakes on a 1500 Goldwing for a mate.....No charge
Then following week, Brakes and Clutch cylinders on another mates GTS1000 Yamaha......No charge.
Than I had a 2 tonne bottle jack seal start leaking, followed a few days later with my 3 tonne trolley jack refusing to stay in the up position with an internal leak,,, Repaired those and now my Hydraulic bike lift decides to dump its oil all over my workshop floor,
Now waiting another seal delivery.....
Thanx to Marc and all the admins & knowledgeable people that make this the best forum on the interweb. =D> =D> =D>
