None of these shots were taken this year, but ages ago (using a Minolta X700 stills camera, scanned onto a memory stick).

The story about Tixall Wide is quite fun. When the canal builders wanted to run the canal across the estate the owners would not let them do this. However, they said they had always wanted an ornamental lake and would let boats cross it!

Tixall Gatehouse has a claim to fame, in that, for a while, Mary (Queen of Scots) was imprisoned here.

 It's really funny what our first thoughts upon waking are... My first one today was 'I really don't fancy running this morning...'

I ended up doing a magical 8 miler!

Not misty but a lovely sunrise seen during my run :D

If you get on the overnight National Express Bus to Victoria Coach Station, at 11.30pm iat Newcastle, and spend an uncomfortable 6 or 7 hours in cramped and not that hygenic company, sunrise over Paggers is indeed a welcome sight!

You're telling me Neil  Sheer purgatory...

I'd prefer to do that trip by train but judging by how much the train cost to take me to Wiltshire last week I guess the bus is considerably cheaper...

Having said that, I'd rather pay and travel in safety and comfort... Especially at present...
