I just got a 2008 picasso and have a question about the oil feed pipe of the turbo.
Here's what I know:
- About 100k kms ago the turbo died, was replaced, died again, and at the second replacement they figured out that the oil supply pipe was blocked, so the turbo got no oil. They mentioned to the previous owner that the oil supply pipe should be cleaned out at every 2nd oil change, so about 40k kms, and that this is pretty much a typical issue with this engine.
- The Haynes service manual for this car mentions this regarding the removal of the pipe: "Note: Citroën insist that any strainer fitted to the banjo bolt at the lower end of the oil supply pipe, must be removed using pliers, and discarded."
Here are my questions:
- Regarding what the Haynes manual says, does this mean that this strainer should be replaced with a clean one or that it should be completely discarded without a replacement? This question comes to mind, because it would makes some sense if this strainer would be the cause of this typical blockage of the pipe.
- Can I just clean out this pipe, or should I replace it with a new one? How often should this be replaced if so?
- If the cleaning is sufficient what cleaning agent should I use? I suppose any that cleans carbon should suffice, because as far as I know mainly carbon is what causes the blockages.
