From the quiz book:

1 Place names ending "cester" are common on Roman Roads. From what is that derived and what does it mean?
Enjoy :-D
Start at the very beginning ...cester ot indeed ....chester are placename endings which
imply a Roman fort or other military camp. Two in North West Durham are Lanchester and Ebchester on Dere Street, although when the road passes through Leadgate it is known as "Watling Street"

Well the limbering up had me put in quite a reasonable performance at UC. Few case of "I would have got that" when the students jumped in with an answer too quick.

Enjoy :-D
Their HQ was the Great Tew Estate and the test track was at Enstone, but are either on the fosse way?

5 out of 5 Neil, well done! Out of interest there is an exhibit with my name on it in the Cotswold Motor Museum in the CSMA memorial section!! I'll see if I have a picture somewhere! :-D As for the Grand Tour, no not on the Fosse Way but not far away through Chipping Norton and the book didn't offer me a fifth question which you wouldn't need the map for so I improvised for quickness!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Just from looking at the pics, not in the mood for research today, it looks like an ex LAA Fishery on the Grand Union Canal. I used to be a member so I'll plump for Pitstone fishery? :-D

I have sailed (with Mum) along some of the Grand Union Canal, and it is possible we went under this bridge, but I cannot say where it is.

It is the Grand Union Canal gentlemen, and in the picture the bridge reference is 188.

Knowing that, the Canals and River Trust website will tell you exactly where it is.

In that case it is the bridge on the Slough Arm where we used to go piking in the winter, the road to Iver but I don't know the name of the actual place! :(

I've just woken up a bit!! Is that from the Avengers episode on ITV4 this morning which I had on while changing the bed? I took notice because it had Garfield Morgan and Patrick Cargill with Brian Wilde of Summer Wine fame. I didn't actually watch the whole episode but remember seeing Steed driving down a road that rang a bell but I couldn't place it. :)
