C5 Estate Tailgate Woes.

Unread post by MFHBlueberry »

After fixing my tailgate glass mechanism with the soldering of the wire hack I learnt from this very forum, it then started to unlock itself whenever I operated the central locking. I fixed this with a BSI reset also learnt about on this forum.

As of today, the mechanism has stopped working again and it unlocked itself again and won’t close at all anymore!

I’ve located part of the problem to a broken spring.

Any idea where I can get a new spring from and where it actually went in the first place?

Also any ideas as to why the release mechanism stopped working and why it randomly unlocks itself still?

Grrr Citroen.

Nice fingerprints - very clear ...
(Sorry, irrelevant time wasting comment!)

I've noticed on my Xsara Picasso that if I leave it unlocked (all doors / tailgate closed) for 15 mins or so, when I come back to it and open the drivers door it pops the tailgate - that seems to be 'normal' anyway (despite your spring).

Hope the spring isn't some ridiculous price ...

That’s usually a sign of a sticking tailgate microswitch. My old C5 and Xsara used to do it, you cant see the switch stuck in because of the rubber cover over it but a bit of prodding & it pops back out.
The OP’s problem is a bit different theirs wont latch closed from what i can gather.

Hello,
After similar issues with the tailgate glass I've made mine manual by attaching a piece of string thru the interior trim so I can open it if needs be for cleaning etc.
Not original but effective.

Good luck

Mr Wheeler is correct on both points. =D>

The tiny metal strip inside the microswitch had fallen to bits but I was able to fashion a repair from an old electrical connector. Super fiddly.
I also managed to figure out where the spring went by some trial and error. I'd post a photo of it but for the fact that it cannot be seen from any angle once fitted.

Got it all working again. Fun times. \:D/
