Solar batteries the secret society.

Post by Gibbo2286 »

I got a flyer offering a battery addition to my solar panel set up.

I asked them this:

Can you give me a ball park figure for the cost of installing a battery to my 12 panel solar set up in my 3 bed semi detached house in West Gloucestershire, I don't want a rep to call....yet.

I got no reply, so I posed the same question to nine other companies in the solar panel/battery business, not one has replied.

I get the feeling that the true situation is they want a rep sitting in my front room for three hours going through the old double glazing routine starting with a huge price then gradually working down with 'special offers' and 'managers specials' 'only if you sign up today' until they get a signature for a price that's still a rip off.

I don't know if it helps Gibbo, but out 15 panel 5.2 kWh setup capped at 4 kWh. Cost 9.6k
I also invested in 2 x 2.2 kWh Aquion saltwater batteries which cost me 1.5k. I've added 3 more 2.2 batteries, secondhand at a cost of £800, giving me 11kWh.
The new "Aquions" are called Greenrock make by blue sky energy in Austria. I got these because you can use them fully, whereas other types of battery only have a 60% usage before the battery is damaged. Also they're completely recyclable at the local tip, whereas all the other batteries have elements that require special handling.
The new Greenrocks are 2.7kWh and about 1.5k. Each.
You could have a look at Tesla .com their power wall seems to be about 5k and if it's anything like the car sales. It's all online with no salesmen. Good luck.
I hope this helps.

I knew about the Tesla offer Chris but looking deeper into the small print it turns out to be more like £7.5k in total.

I heard that Ikea were offering an alternative but can't find any real detail about that ...so far. :)
