My Seven Wonders of the Modern World

Unread post by mickthemaverick »

Following on from Neil's observations in The Chain thread I thought it might be amusing to post up my choice of seven wonders of the modern world so here they are:
1 The Wheel
2 The Reciprocating Engine
3 The aerofoil
4 The silicon transistor
5 The photoelectric cell
6 The Light Emitting Diode
7 The FCF

And yours? :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

One of the absolute wonders of the modern world has to be how Trump still has so many millions of supporters. :lolhit:

It’s baffling. My great aunt in Mississippi is a Trump supporter. She’s a lovely old lady, and totally sane in every other aspect of life. Totally mad when Trump speaks - they simply believe everything he says whatever he says. Even when you point out the (easily verifiable) truth.

My Great aunt emigrated when she was about 18. Grammar school education here in the UK before that. Still has some Lancastrian left in her (she told me to bugger off the other day - not a phrase from the Deep South!). Her brain simply switches off when the Trumptard speaks though.

I would add the NHS, a lot of us wouldn't be here now without them. What's wrong with germanium transistors?

Nothing at all Peter, in fact Germaniums produce much nicer flowers!

I had a Bang & Olufsson receiver that hissed gently. Took it to the radio/TV engineer conveniently located in the building I lived in.
They said there was nothing they could do with it as it was the Germanium transistors and to convert to Silicon transistors would cost more than buying a new receiver. Had it for another ten or twelve years then replace it with a nice quiet Marantz one.
