Best ODBII Reader

Unread post by Usho »

Hi,

I recently privately purchased a 2010 C5 2.0 HDI Exclusive with 147K miles on it (UK imported in 2012). From day two it started to cut out and display errors. Apparently it's going into "Limp Home Mode".

There are a couple of errors coming up:
- Depollution Filter Malfunction
- ESP/ASR Malfunction
In addition, the mechanic says that a code PO366 is coming up and not going away. He says that replacing the Camshaft Position sensor will fix this.

The car hadn't been serviced for about 40k Km, so way too long and it hadn't had the DPF fluid replaced. It's now had a basic service and the engine oil flushed out twice to remove metal from the engine :-( and it is going back to have it done again and the sump removed to remove all the metal and replenish. Hopefully, it'll be okay after that.
I don't know if the DPF filter is totalled or if it is okay. Any suggestions?

I also want to buy a good OBDII reader for myself to diagnose and fix issues and perhaps order parts in advance for my mechanic as I need them. Can anyone here recommend a good/the best option for an OBDII diagnostic device please?

Thanks and sorry for the long post. I hope my new car will be okay..........

Hi, and :welc: to the forum.

The only really suitable reader is a Lexia clone. Basic readers struggle to 'understand' PSA vehicles. With a Lexia clone you can do almost everything that a Citroen garage can do. You will need a decent laptop to go with it, as the Lexia equipment is hardware/software that runs on a PC. Easy Diagnostics are well thought of, although they certainly are not the cheapest (but you get what you pay for). I bought a Lexia system from them several years ago, and I have not regretted it.

Hell Razor5543,

"Basic readers struggle to 'understand' PSA vehicles" ...

Sorry, what's PSA please? I'm sure the answer is obvious

An acronym for the Peugeot group of brands (Peugeot Société Anonyme) - Peugeot, Citroen and DS. And now including Vauxhall and Opel as well.
