Battery Sensor for Citroen C4 2012

Post by AlanDaubs »

Can anyone help please. My battery went on my C4, I tried charging it but no luck so I got a new battery. When I was taking the negative terminal off it was really tight, even after loosening the nut. I tried putting a screwdriver underneath to push it up but broke the battery sensor. I have contacted our local Citroen dealer but they don’t stock the part and said they are having trouble getting some parts due to a factory closing due to Covid and are trying to get it from somewhere else. It’s been 2 weeks and still nothing. Does anyone know where I can get it?
I have attached pictures as I am not 100% sure it’s the battery sensor. Thanks.

That is the Battery Charge Status Unit. It incorporates a voltage sensor and a power sensor. It measures the battery status, including temperature, charge, polling the battery periodically. It's function is to inform the BSI of the state of the battery and to determine the energy management strategy of the vehicle.

They are pretty specialised units and come in several fittings for your C4, and there is a special way of removing and fitting them depending on assembly fitted. You' will probably have to wait until they get them in though. As long as you have a new battery - you'll be ok until you can get the new one fitted, just make sure you don't run accessories with the engine off for longer than necessary.

When you do get one, it will take some time of driving and a few days to a week at least after fitting for it to calibrate the battery.

Whenever you remove and refit the battery (or disconnect any terminals) follow this BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure to ensure there are not problems with ECU reinitialisation!

If you want the methods of removal and fitting, let me know (along with your VIN) - there could be 2 methods for the types fitted on this vehicle - let me know and I'll put something up.

Thanks for that. I haven’t connected the new battery yet as I didn’t want to try running it without the part. Luckily it’s our second car so doesn’t get used much anymore, probably why the old battery died. Is it safe to connect the battery and drive it without the sensor or should I wait?

You can do, although the energy management system won't be operational with it disconnected. But do make sure you do follow the guide when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery before and after fitting it.
