Peguot 5008 Additive Problem

Post by Unterhunt »

Hello everyone.
Recently I have buy a Peugeot 5008 1.6hdi 2015.
Yesterday I have encountered first problem with car. Engin fault repair needed sign come up and car is in limp mode.
With my basic obd2 scanner have I found 2 fault codes :
P1434 and P1435. I know what codes mean.
I have check aditive level (with car diagnostic tool) and there is only 9ml in additive tank(empty)
My question is :
Why I didn't receive a warning that Dpf fluid is low?
I'm wondering if a seller has disable warning, or hat only reset counter?
I own car for 3 weeks.
Thanks

I'll need your VIN to check which exact system you have fitted but:

P1434 means there is a fault with the additive pump.
P1435 means there is a communication fault to / from the additive pump.

These faults make sense in that if the pump is damaged because of dry running, it may have damaged the unit and this is a reason why it cannot communicate with the engine ECU any longer.

In both cases, this will result in reduced fuel flow, so will limit engine revs and therefore speed.

In both cases it will put up the 'Risk of Filter Clogging' message as the pump is no longer working and therefore no additive is being injected.

To answer your question about the warning for low fluid level. Yes there is a warning system - but the additive quantity in the additive tank is not physically measured, only estimated. So if somebody has told the engine ECU that the fluid has been topped up and hasn't done it, the Engine ECU will think it has fluid until it runs out - then when the additive pump cannot inject any fluid, it risks damage to the metering pump - and this is where you may be now.

When the additive fluid is topped up, the engine ECU needs to have the additive counter set to zero. If this has been done without topping up the fluid then it will lead to a malfunction and your particle filter will start to clog as it can no longer use assisted regeneration - only natural regeneration - but your exhaust system will have to reach 550 °C and be driven at sustained speeds in order to regenerate this way.

So at this point I suspect that your additive pump is shot as it has been damaged by running dry. It does need further investigation - but do not wait and do not drive it unnecessarily.

Thanks for the reply. Can I see history of clearing faults? I suspect that dealer has cleared faults before selling car...

Ok, so you have a 5008 (T87E) ESTATE - LEISURE 1.6 HDI 115 (DV6C) piloted manual gearbox 6 (With stop and start). So it's as I said in my earlier post.

If you have Diagbox, there should be a fault journal (top left hand corner menu) that will show you all the recorded faults, but it probably won't show you the actions taken - just a fault history. But it may show you associated faults like the fluid being low if these were cleared. :-D
