Mick I was just doing a supplementary question while you were posting! I guess you have most of the answer to the second part already!
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 28 Jul 2020, 21:06 Well here's a related story from the Northern Echo

When Commander Straker's car landed in a garage in the middle of Darlington in 1971

REgards Neil
and a question sprouting from the article
What does the abbreviation SHADO stand for :?:

and one for Mick
What was the score when Chelsea played the Quakers on January 29, 1958 in an FA Cup replay at Feethams (attendance: 15,150). :?: (go on and who scored the goals :?: )

Regards Neil
I'll leave SHADO for others although I read the article so not difficult!!
4-1, (that hurts, the game was a replay as Darlington had gained a 3-3 draw at the Bridge!) 2 for Moran, Habbertson and Carr for Darlington with the sole reply from McNicholl for Chelsea.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I had an enjoyable recounting of such phemonema yesterday, and I can readily accept the concept of "familiarity phenonemon" where your attention is either consciously or sub-consciously primed by recent things you have read or seen, so that you begin to be switched on to notice things which normally you wouldnt notice. But I think the Waitangi River anagram of Virginia Water was just a case of unbelievable randomness, and the connections it personally made for yourself. I could have chosen any link whatsoever from Virginia Water, choosing an anagram was a bit off the wall but that was probably me being pre programmed to look for something different.

Of course the rational scientists in my little discussion yesterday all put it down to randomness and being able to make links to "fit the story" after the event. In any paragraph of information I choose to write or place I mention there are no doubt associations can be made of a loose nature, or occasionaly of a more substantial nature which may apply to a wide range of people. Just occasionally though the random connection can be staggering!

I think its one of those things to observe and enjoy. I certainly didn't pick UFO or that story from the Northern Echo because in one of the paragraphs it mentioned Darlingtons greatest ever moment in football history, still didn't they do well :-D 3-3 at the Bridge was unbelievable enough, but I wonder if they caught Chelsea mid-week on a heavy pitch in January 1958 with a big home crowd roaring them on!

Nightrider should be Knightrider. K.I.T.T. stands for Knight Industries Two Thousand.

of Course...I was wondering who would be the first to spot that! Others are easy enough to find doesnt have to be TOH! even dedicated avengers fans would never get ABORCASHAATA :-D without a bit research.

Close enough "Spectrum is Green". One of those phrases like FAB from Thunderbirds just a substitute for Received and Understood.

Thrush was never defined as an acronym in the tv series but in the books it was:
Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity

My acronym for Uncle had an error, the C stood for Command not Criminal as I had suggested!! Back to the list :-D

Stingray was a submarine piloted by Troy Tempest who was employed by WASP - World Aquanaut Security Patrol, a sub division of WSP. and frequently used PWOR meaning Proceeding With Orders Received :-D
