That’s right, Gardeners World this morning did a piece at Alton Towers. Had an interesting diversion into photography in the 1800’s. and the work of H. Petschler

Maybe a bit too specialist for general consumption but I did enjoy this on his work on thatched houses

The French Car Forum Interpretation Quiz

Well since first joining the forum in 2009 I have never bothered to find out what the heiroglyphics to the left of the forum post listings mean. Never really used them if indeed they are intended to be used. Active topics/your posts are about all I ever use.

So I'm sure others are much more switched on than me, and I can't even arbitrate in the quiz because I dont know what they mean! So maybe someone who does can enlighten me, or alternatively come up with some amusing alternative interpretations.

I look forward to being educated!

Thanks Steve I'll have to have a look back at my star postings in the "Ideas" category :-D

Regards Neil

PS Well I Never "Jokes which I found Funny" is one of those "ideas" threads so I'll reprise this, quite apt seeing as the Daylight Inn at Petts Wood has already had an airing this morning!

The landlord, always mindful of the feelings of the punter, asked sensitively

"Everything OK?"

Stemming the tears, God said...

"Not really. I have been working my socks off, and have just created 24 hours of alternating light and dark but now everyone just takes it for granted, and there's no thanks for what I have done.....so...after a lot of thought......I've decided to call it a day...."

Here is one for you. In what industry would you find people sitting on one legged stools (and why)?

I am assuming James that in view of the general milkman discussions going on today you are referring to the traditional one legged milking stool used in the dairy industry to allow the milker to manouver around the udder as required!! :-D

Isn't it something to do with the explosives industry or the jam making industry and stirring things ? If they stopped stirring the mix, very noisy things could happen or very messy things could happen, so the one legged stool was to make sure they were rudely awoken if they fell asleep on the job ?

Mick, it is possible you answer is correct. However, bobins has answered the question with the information I was after. Alfred Nobel, in certain areas of his factories where nitro-glycerine was produced and then blended to make dynamite, had the people responsible for monitoring those stages sitting on one legged stools that required them to remain wide awake (or fall off if they started to fall asleep).

I thought milking stools were traditionally 3 legged so they didn't rock when on the rough milking parlour floor ?
