Xantia - Changing AL4 ( automatic gear ) with manual gear

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

How complicate is it to change AL4 ( Automatic gear ) to manual gear box - my biggest concern is if harnesses and wiring should be changed , and if the FW of the engine ECU should be changed. At the instrument cluster of the automatic version there is a gauge that shows the selected gear position and for the manual gear there is the engine oil temperature - so I guess the instrument cluster should be replaced and some harness

Thanks
Zohar

Converting from automatic to manual transmission is a big job, and will require many parts from a compatible vehicle with manual transmission.
The engine ECU firmware is different.
The engine wiring harnesses are certainly different, and probably the main wiring harness behind the dashboard.
You need to fit a clutch pedal and cable, which involves removing the dashboard.
You need to fit a manual gear selector mechanism and associated interior parts.
The driveshafts are probably different
There are probably differences in the cooling system.
