Re: Dump Your Deezel
Talk of 2032 , yes Scotland has been there done that already.
Good old wiki, has a table of the fossil fuel new vehicles phase out years, for a number of countries.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-o ... l_vehicles
It isn’t going to go away, especially in Europe, and changes are already happening. There will be failures, and successes with the failures not caused per se by transport electrification, but by failing to accept the change and adapt their business to the new reality which has been clearly signposted for some time now.
Regards Neil

Re: Dump Your Deezel
I saw yesterday that they're proposing to ban gas central heating boilers too, in my last place I had electric night storage heaters, they were horrendously expensive to run and very poor in providing warmth through the whole day.
The people I sold it too quickly removed them and installed a wood burner (free wood they thought because the house was next to an oak forest and they could pick up the fallen branches and dead wood).
The novelty soon went off that idea and they moved on to an oil boiler.
I'm on mains gas here and it's clean, cheap, convenient and easily adjusted for best results.

Re: Dump Your Deezel
Mains gas may have a drop of hydrogen in it before they phase it out, although new developments a bit like sales of new fossil fuel cars, will be banned from connecting to the gas grid and have to offer greater standards of insulation and alternative heating.

Alternative heating - like what?
Thank God for climate change, as gradually as every means of keeping warm becomes unacceptable (oh, the winter my CH boiler failed, my electricity bill was £4,000-odd - & I'm still paying nearly £400 a month, because EDF won't reduce my direct debit in line with the revised payment plan)

Re: Dump Your Deezel
If you have shares in Heat Pump/Insulation companies they are set for a boom, and expect that all new build homes will not be connected to the gas grid, possibly even sooner than 2025.
The chapter and verse of the changes to the building regs for Future Homes is here Van.

Re: Dump Your Deezel
The heatpump concept is an attractive one & clearly has a place in new builds, but I'm not convinced they are a universal retro-fit solution.

Re: Dump Your Deezel
China's Geely pulling the strings? They acquired Volvo in March 2010. This is their China Euro Vehicle Technology R&D Centre in Gothenburg
Back in November 2015 Geely Auto announces the Blue Geely Initiative promising that 90% of its vehicles sold by 2020 will be new energy vehicles using either hybrid or pure electric powertrains.
Not that great a surprise that their acquistion is dumping diesel quite apart from the pressure of fleet sales emissions fines

Probably an insignificant one to add to the list bearing in mind their bail out from UK manufacturing

Honda has accelerated its plans for all its European mainstream car models to be "electrified" from 2025 to 2022.

There are still some new diesel engines being developed so they are not quite dead yet.

Re: Dump Your Deezel
Having completed 30000 miles in my Shogun and Delica on used veggie oil I see no reason to stop using diesel engines. It's diesel fuel that needs to go and design the engines from the beginning to run on waste veggie oil!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Time to get on with it and make it happen and stop the bleating, its been telegraphed long enough.Following extensive consultation with car manufacturers and sellers, the Prime Minister has confirmed that the UK will end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030, ten years earlier than planned. However we will allow the sale of hybrid cars and vans that can drive a significant distance with no carbon coming out of the tailpipe until 2035.
