2013 Relay / Jumper Diesel Particulate Filter

Post by OneRelayTooMany »

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum after reading around it for a while now.

One of my Relays is a 2013 which has done about 120,000 miles.

DPF regeneration light came on the other day and after a few more days the van went in to limp mode.

Used Diagbox to do a stationary regeneration which kicked a bit of crap out of the exhaust, but nothing like what I have seen on many youtube videos (took about 40 mins)

Took the van for a spin up the road and withing 5 miles the DPF light comes on again and after 10-15 miles its back it to limp mode.

Did another regeneration (not sure why) and cleared all the errors (took 30 mins this time).

Then used diagbox to read the status of the DPF. Showed 3% full and all looked ok....pressure sensors reporting etc.

However, as soon as I drive it a few miles I get the same problem.....DPF light followed by limp mode after another few miles.

With the vehicle stationary after a DPF regeneration I dont get the DPF light coming on...only after actually doing some driving.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking maybe a wiring short on one of the pressure sensors before/after the DPF?
Driving the van/vibration it touches the bodywork and triggers the DPF light/requirement for regen?

I am 90% sure the filter is ok and the first regen did kick out a little bit of crap so I think that worked as well.

Not sure what else to look at....any advice very welcome.

Hi, and :welc: to the forum. I do not have any experience of your problem, so I cannot offer any advise, but somebody will be along soon who can.

Pretty sure these are the same as a Ford Transit, they have an injector upstream of the dpf which injects diesel into the exhaust to get it hotter.
They always fail & need to be replaced .
Also as you have Diagbox, check your dpf differential pressures . It should be zero at idle & no more than 60mb at @3000 rpm.if you get a very high reading & it never changes, the sensor may be defective. If it’s much higher than these readings, it’s still blocked.

Many thanks for the reply.

Differential pressure while idle : 27 mb
Differential pressure while @3000rpm : 170 mb

I guess that is fairly definitive.

I have taken the ijector/heater out and it is blocked up, will try and service it or get a new one and report back on the result!

OK, replaced the injector with a 2nd hand one which was not blocked.

Cleared the faults and did a regeneration....presto.... idle diff pressure is 3mbar and when @ 3000 rpm 32mbar give or take.

Many thanks for the prompt response and help with this problem.

Out of interest, if this Relay has done 120,000 miles then has it had the DPF replaced, or at least backflushed, before?

It has the original filter on it which has never been touched.

I also have a 64 plate that has done 185,000 but that has been to Citroen for a regeneration after it went into limp mode.

They charged me 120 quid to regen it and said if the light came on again it would probably need a new filter.

Hence the reason I installed diagbox.

Light came on driving home so that it the next van to look at..... I am guessing another blocked injector but who knows. Maybe the filter has actually gone.

Good to know that a filter can last that long.

Just changed mine at 304,000 miles, still got same problem. Regens every 140 miles, smokes and looses power for 15 miles then ok. Repeat. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you check the amount of the Eolys as estimated by the ECU?
Did you "tell" the ECU that there was a new DPF fitted?

Hi, 2012 model no eolys, yes it has been told and a forced regen as per new dpf instructions. Snap on used. Thanks.

Are you sure that your vehicle doesn't use Eolys? I didn't know that there was any PSA vehicle with a DPF that regenerated without Eolys.

Well that's news to me, and Citroen!! They had it all day and could not find any problems apart from a frayed wire on an abs sensor at the rear wheel. Imbeciles. How would I tell? There has never been any warning lights for related probs.

Ah this system uses an injector in the exhaust.
