Depollution system faulty

Post by xrocker2002 »

My car is 2009 model Peugeot 308 petrol. It shows "Depollution system faulty" warning msgs sometime during the engine start and engine goes to limp mode along with Engine system light ON. What I do is, I use the OBD scanner and clear the faulty code and drive off the vehicle. Is there any problem in doing so??

We could give better advice if you give the exact fault codes that you are clearing and the VIN of your car so that we can look up the engine specification.

P0504- power train
P0299 - Power train.

Apart from this showing msg "Depollution system faulty"

These are the two faulty code generated before, one code has gone when I changed the brake light bulb.
Other I cleared myself without doing anything.

The VIN can normally be found in a couple of locations on the vehicle. Sometimes it is stamped in the metal of a wing, where the bonnet covers it, and it can also be found on the lower edge of the windscreen (there will be a clear point in the black surround, with the VIN underneath).

i have mentioned VIN as chassis number... But it is displayed as asterisks... It is from lower edge of the windscreen..... The vehicle is GCC specs...Used in Dubai, United Arab emirates.

OK, I missed that bit. What I did spot was that (in the report) it said Vehicle VIN: Not present.

P0504 is probably the one you have fixed (as this relates to wire brake fault coherence fault). In other words the 2 sets of brake data don't match up.

P0299 - is a Turbocharging Pressure Regulation Fault - The turbo pressure is too low. Turbo regulation at the minimum limit. The difference between the reference turbo pressure and the actual pressure falls below the threshold of - 0.1 bars or - 0.12 bars if there is an error in the camshaft dephasing system (no confirmation time).

Conditions for Fault Code:The following conditions have to be met:
  • Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
  • Turbocharger pressure regulation(Active)
  • Atmospheric pressure higher than 0,8 bars
  • Engine speed above a threshold dependent on atmospheric pressure
  • Turbo pressure valid
  • No power step error
  • Extra delay dependent on the engine speed after these conditions are active
Conditions for Fault to go: After engine restart (if the difference between the reference turbo pressure and the actual pressure exceeds the threshold of - 0.1 bars or - 0.12 bars if there is an error in the camshaft dephasing system).

Dowgrade Mode Whilst this Fault is Active:
  • Deactivation of the turbocharger regulation
  • A serious reduction of load is applied in order to imitate the behaviour of a normally-aspirated engine
  • The "overboost" function is deactivated
The engine management warning lamp will light.

Symptoms: Lack of Power

Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger Pressure Regulation Electrovalve
  • Turbocharger Discharge Electrovalve
  • Inlet Manifold
  • Vacuum Pump
  • Vacuum duct for the diaphragm of the turbo pressure regulation electrovalve

Is there any issue if riding a vehicle without rectifying these issues?? Is this something which requires immediate attention??

Well yes, as when the fault is active, there will be a reduction in, or a lack of power. That could be bad in situations where you need the power (in an emergency or for overtaking).

So the fault has given you a clue and some pointers as to what may be at fault. You'll really need to get some live data on it now / or get a mechanic to start investigating / checking.

I think that there may be more than one issue here, faults like:
Test report:
------------------
MID:$01 TID:$3e
- O2 Bank 1 Sensor 1
Max: 9,826 Min: 15,872
Test result value: 15,873
FAIL
----
MID:$01 TID:$54
- O2 Bank 1 Sensor 1
Max: 9,826 Min: 21,632
Test result value: 21,633
FAIL
----
MID:$12 TID:$0a
Sensor period(calculated) -
Max: 2,054S Min: 30,760S
Test result value: 51,218S
FAIL
Indicate a faulty oxygen sensor (or some other mixture regulation fault), which don't seem to be related to your under-boost fault.

The under-boost fault could be caused by a fault in the vacuum control system for the turbo, or the wastegate actuator, or the dump valve. It could even ben the turbo itself.

I suppose that a blockage in the exhaust system (catalytic converter) could cause both the mixture regulation and under-boost faults.

It is not clear from your description whether the faults are continuously present or intermittent.

I think that you need to get the car connected to a diagnostic tool that can read live-data (e.g. Diagbox) so that the parameters can be checked with the engine running.
