Unidentified hose with a screw in it...surely not factory standard

Post by belaprops »

Hi All,

I'm always impressed with all your great advice.
So looking at the pics I added, does anyone know what the hose should be for.
It comes from the top side of the engine and then snakes past the airfilter ducting and ends up blocked with a screw.
With the unknown history of this engine I'm trying to rectify all things but can't find what this should be... connected to

That setup certainly looks 'bodged' somehow. Even the braided cable to the right of your red arrow in picture 1 does not appear in any diagrams I can see, so possibly it has been re-routed over the top instead of underneath.

But that sliced pipe in picture 3 with the bolt in definitely looks odd.

I'm thinking this may be something to do with the vacuum circuit.... Is it possible somebody has disabled the EGR Valve?

The braided cable is vacuum, might be wrongly routed, unless the egr has more input, all is connected there.

Judging from your other post (about the EGR), does look as if someone has disabled it.

This is the second model engine of the 2 ltr HDI 160 , I have checked around the EGR and all is in place. It's a translucent hose, not a vacuum rubber hose. As it has a preformed gap whete it enters the engine it must be something original.

I put a better pic on and I can confirm it's a rubber hose. It does not go into the area of the fuel rail but just behind .

I've looked in my engine bay and have no idea what pipe that is.

Can you confirm where this pipe with the bolt in it comes from ?
Is it from the cylinder head where the fuel pump and brake vacuum are attached ?

So , you have this hose aswell, it comes just behind the engine top , whete the heat shield of the solenoid are, but I can't see where it's coming from.

Okay, It's at the rear of the cylinder head, is it at or near to the EGR solenoid valve ?

Yes, it's an niple on the plastic with this hose on it, I took the hose off and a plastic nipple is visible.
I guess on no drawing this is shown, it's direct under the EGR solenoid,

Okay I'll take another look as I know what to look for.

The nipple is nothing to worry about, it is a breather hose coming out of the head. On mine there is a plastic pipe running along and down the front of the engine.

Can you explain where the pipe with the bolt runs from and to ?
