Hello.
May seem like a daft question but can I use a 3 legged puller to remove the hub from my car. With the point of the puller being pushed against the end of the drive shaft?
I can strip down callipers and disk but I don't want to remove bearing if I don't have too.
A silly arse mechanic cross threaded a wheel bolt that broke when I was having tyres fitted. Tried using an extractor but that broke too. So new hub!
Thanks people.

Thats very close, only I will remove the brake disk to get the puller claws behind the hub. But that really helps. Thank you

Re: Removing front C5 III wheel hub
I am a bit confused about what you are trying to do. Pushing the driveshaft out of the hub (as shown in the picture above) will allow the whole hub assembly to be removed form the car, but the hub will still be attached to the bearing and the upright and the bearing will need to be pressed out.
You also need to undo the lower ball-joint before attempting to press the driveshaft out of the hub.

Re: Removing front C5 III wheel hub
What I am wanting to do is remove the hub only, if possible, from the bearing and the housing as the hub is u/s due to a cross threaded and broken wheel bolt. Im hoping to pull the hub out of the bearing in situ.
Possible?
As I understand it the bearing will be held in place with the circlip so I'm hoping the hub will slip out, and as the lower ball joint will be still attached the path of least resistance will be the hub sliding out.
Its all theoretical for me as Ive never done this so Im looking for confirmation if its possible or not.

I think you are trying to remove the stub axle from the hub/bearing, so you can replace stub axle due to broken wheel bolt?

Re: Removing front C5 III wheel hub
The bearing will break when you pull the hub out - the outer track always comes out attached to the hub. In theory you can pull it out on the car using bolts through the wheel bolt holes, but I've found it difficult to get purchase - it's much easier to remove the hub carrier and then just drive it out from the back with an appropriately fitting socket. You will need a new wheel bearing....
