Help!!! Aircon pipe has come off

Post by UK-C5-X7-09RJ »

Hello all, I'm looking for anyone that can help with an issue I have with my aircon on my 2009 C5 X7. The problem is a pipe has come apart, I'll attach a picture of the pipe. So if i have managed to get it back to together its just like a push fit type, so dose anyone know if that's all it is and if I get it re-gased will it hold as the pipe only pushes on and a clip goes on. It don't seem much. Any help much appreciated.......the picture is not mine but just to show which part has come apart on my car.

Hi and welcome.

This part is fixed by 3 'O' rings and is a snap in union. The size of the 'O' rings will vary depending on your exact model and could be 14 or 16.5 diameter.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the reply, when it did come apart there was 'O' rings on they hadn't come off luckily. So as I have pushed it back in which was a very tight fit and shaped the clip back in would you say it should be ok (fingers crossed). I'm not sure what happened to make it do this the car had been sitting in the sun for a week when we had very hot weather 2 weeks ago (uk) as I was waiting for a new steering rack😒, but I needed to go to the shop 5min down the road, I didn't even have the AC on as I had the windows open, so I'm wondering if this was some strange one of thing due to the heat and should try and get it re-gased 🤔

If the pipe has been separated it is always wise to replace the O rings, because when they are fitted they form a seal over time to the shape of the pipe. When the joint is separated, it can cause the O rings to deform - so when replaced, they won't seal as they should and this can lead to leaks.

If replacing the O-rings yourself, put a smear of silicone grease or Vaseline on them before pushing the pipes together. This will ease the joint, and prevent the new rings getting scuffed.
