Heinz Wolff
Magnus Pyke
Patrick Moore
Johnny Ball
Richard Hearne
Wilf Lunn
Bob Symes

James Burke
Tim Hunkin
Albert Einstein
Fyffe Robertson
Dick Strawbridge
Humphrey Lestocq
Never heard of half of them Mick! I'll consider my rankings overnight :-D Professor Stanley Unwin was a bit bonkers too! but probably not a professor David Bellamy who I have seen in real life, and then there is the ever popular Brian Cox. Strange lack of ladies on the list. Not eccentric at all but I do like Hannah Fry the Mathematician.

Well I've gone off piste, and decided to select my choice of 9 TV boffins not on pure eccentricity but on usefulness on a desert island.

So in comes Ray Mears and of course the number 1 choice Brains from thunderbirds. He did a fantastic job with Tracy Island, and the same sort of thing would do...swimming pools, a range of aircraft, rockets and underwater vessels and suchlike, and a decent accomodation block with a view. Clearly I would have some mathematical and anthropological needs to satisfy so in comes Hannah Fry and Alice Roberts. Fred dibnah is in just in case Brains need a bit of help with practical engineering. David bellamy is in to amuse himself marauding round the island teaming up with Ray Mears to nail down what is edible and what isnt. Attenborough is in to tell us about the birds and bees and other Fauna and just a smattering of the eccentric with Patrick Moore who we can contemplate the cosmos with, and Heinz wolff is in on his haircut alone.

The current tv boffin whose series I've been following recently is Jim Al-Khalili not sure he's in any way eccentric but he's certainly enthusiastic.

Had to abandon this one, after fitting a new psu it turns out that although the psu was knacked either the motherboard or the graphics board, or both are also faulty.

So I've bought, on ebay, a refurbed HP i5 64 bit tower for less money that the bits for this one would cost.

Jim Al-Khalili is based at the Unversity of Surrey, so no possibility of anything eccentric there.
A scurrilous suggestion! [-(

Now if our Jim was taking an "as the crow flies" flight from the University of SussexSurrey to the filming location point at the Castle he will travelled 318 286 Miles according to https://www.doogal.co.uk/

Just to get that out of the way the answer is in the Spoiler. Of all the castles in all the Country they chose this one, bit out of the way for an away day for the film crew......... The area is also well known for the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust reserve.
Spoiler: show
