1.6hdi sump removal

Hi there. My dipstick snapped (again) in the tube, so I purchased a metal one.(with no plastic bit that always breaks)

However now when I try to insert the dipstick, it womt go in all the way..

I'm guessing the small piece which snapped off is still stuck in the bottom of the tube. Is there an easy way that this can be rectified..How big of a job is it to remove the sump, as I feel this may be my best/only option.
