How do you expect the fault to be cleared if the fault hasn't been fixed?

Fault codes are there to tell you something isn't right. If you don't fix the problem the fault will only come back if you could clear it.

Pop your VIN up and I'll take a look at these fault codes for you that may give you some pointers.

Here's a few to be going on with as I think I have this engine code already:

You say you changed the cam / crank sensors - where did you get them from? ECP by any chance?
P0339: Engine speed sensor signal fault: Loss of synchronisation. Essentially, detection of a loss of signal from the engine speed sensor.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of the richness regulation; Stopping of calculation of the ambient temperature. Engine Warning Lamp will be lit.

Symptoms: Starting impossible, Stalling at idle, Cutting out under load.

Suspect Areas: Air gap too large, Engine speed sensor, Engine ECU.
P1694: Coherence fault between the request for engine starting and the engine speed information: Not characterised. Control of the starter without detection of drop in battery voltage and without the engine speed exceeding a threshold of about 30 rpm (For at least 5s).

Conditions for Fault to clear: Starter motor active and detection of engine speed for 0.1s.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Starter control line cut.

Symptoms: Starting Impossible

Suspect Areas: Starter control relay (PSF1), Starter, Electrical harness, Connectors
P0343: Inlet cylinder reference sensor signal fault: Coherence. Detection of a loss of signal from the inlet camshaft / Signal stuck in high status.

Conditions for Fault to clear: At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled:
  • - Clearing after several acquisitions of an inlet camshaft sensor signal coherent with a model
  • - No fault codes found P0343 - P0342
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Change to butterfly mode, Deactivation of the canister purge function. The management warning lamp will be lit whilst active.

Symptoms: Lack of power, Restarting impossible if there is a double signal fault on the inlet camshaft and the exhaust camshaft.

Suspect Areas: Camshaft position sensor, Electrical harness.
P0368: Exhaust cylinder reference sensor signal fault: Coherence. Detection of a loss of signal from the exhaust camshaft sensor (Signal stuck in high status).

Conditions for Fault to clear: Exhaust camshaft sensor signals acquired and plausible.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Prohibition of adaptation and control of the exhaust camshaft, Change to butterfly mode, Deactivation of checking of the canister purge.

Symptoms: Lack of power, Restarting impossible if there is a double signal fault on the inlet camshaft and the exhaust camshaft.

Suspect Areas: Camshaft position sensor, Electrical harness
P0533: Upstream oxygen sensor resistance fault: Resistance too high. Detection of an open circuit or of a short-circuit to earth on the continuous signal from the upstream oxygen sensor.

Possibility 1: Internal resistance of the upstream oxygen sensor too high ; The opening cyclic ratio of the heating regulator remains at its maximum value (100 %) for 10 seconds

Possibility 2: Internal resistance of the upstream sensor too high or detection of an open circuit on the earth of the continuous signal from the upstream Lambda sensor

Conditions for Fault to clear:

Possibility 1:
  • Engine hot
  • Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
  • Battery voltage between 10,7 and 16 V
  • Engine running
  • No request for sensor heating cut-off
  • No errors on the sensors
  • Temperature of the exhaust gases between 260 °C and 720 °C
  • Diagnostics deactivated if cut-off on deceleration for more than 3 seconds and no sensor heating
Possibility 2:
  • Engine cold
  • No fault codes found : P0130
  • Engine off for more than 5 minutes
  • Engine temperature higher than -9,8° (When starting)
  • Internal resistance of the oxygen sensor above 45 ohms
  • No errors on the sensors
  • Sensor heating regulator not deactivated
  • No injector cut off
  • Battery voltage between 10,7 and 16 V
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met:
  • No fault codes found: P0053 - P0030 (For 110 seconds)
  • Engine hot (Temperature of the exhaust gases between 719.99°C and 800°C at the sensors)
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of the richness regulation, Deactivation of purging of the catalytic converter.

Symptoms: Emissions outside the norms, Excessive fuel consumption.

Suspect Areas: Oxygen sensor, Electrical harness
P0036: Downstream oxygen sensor heating control: Open circuit or overheating. Detection of an open circuit on the downstream oxygen sensor heating power stage, or overheating, for more than 0.5s.

Conditions for Fault to clear: Absence of the fault codes P0036, P0037, P0038 for 1s.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Downstream oxygen sensor not available (not heated). Deactivation of the richness regulation (Change to open loop), No purging of the catalytic converter.

Symptoms: Emissions outside the norms.

Suspect Areas: Fuse, Connectors, Downstream oxygen sensor, The electrical harness, Engine fusebox, Engine ECU

What engine is this? Is it a timing belt or timing chain?
Do the faults clear but come back as soon as you attempt to start the car? or just wont clear at all?
What happened to the car, did it cut out when driving or just would not start one day?

Yes its a horrible ep3 engine .Car just refused to start one day Was running perfect. As i say the timing chain has been checked and all lined up perfect not jumped or moved at all .Crank and cam sensors changed .Faults will not clear at all and remain on ecu even before attempting to restart Live data shows engine cranking speed at about 250 rpm .

You can see from the suspect areas int he fault codes that on more than one fault the camshaft position sensor is a possibility, hence why I asked where you bought the sensors from.

Strange one, were proper locking tools used to check the timing? i would maybe take the cam sensor out & inspect the the lugs on the camshaft that the sensor picks up incase it is damaged or has debris on it.

Yes proper tools used all lined up perfect no slack in the chain at all .Just weird that the fault codes are unable to clear .Its like the ecu has locked itself.I pulled a coilpack lead off and tried to start it and now have a coil pack fault that wont clear either .Could it be a canbus fault .Would underbonnet fuse box fault cause it maybe ?Tried towing it today and didnt even fire at all But rev counter worked so proves crank sensor is ok .

Did you check the cam sensor pickup? id also have a look at the ECU for water ingress, if that's all ok next I would scope the signals from the cam & crank sensors. Does the cam sensor have a power supply to it?
