Noise from engine when cold

Post by zeeshanzaki »

I noticed screeching noise coming from middle of the engine where a grey connector is connected. It goes away when the card warm up. Is this normal or something need attention.

I have attached location of noise and sound file.

The noise does not seem normal. I think that the part in your photo may be the idle air valve, but I have not heard one making that noise.

Check that the rubber damper on the crankshaft pulley is not slipping, paint a mark accross both parts of the pulley then run the engine and check it.

It may not be the idle air valve but the noise is from the surrounding area.
Where is rubber damper located.

The crank pulley damper is part of the pulley on the end of the crankshaft that drives the alternator, A/C, (etc.). They are a common cause of loud squealing on these engines.

If your car has manual transmission, the noise could be the clutch throw-out bearing. Try starting the engine with the clutch pedal pressed and see if the noise disappears.

If your car has automatic transmission (4HP20 I expect), then the noise could be a warning of imminent transmission failure due to a blocked transmission oil filter. This requires engine removal to replace, but quickly results in a destroyed transmission if not replaced.

The noise coming from engine and only when cold after that its normal. I am noticing this noise since a year. Before it only used to come for few seconds when engine startup. But now it is lasting little longer.

All this problem started when i changed bsm unit(a fuse box) to fix headlight issue as it used stay on once year. Car was rough idle and transmission went into limp mode. So i did bsi reset and it fixed. Then i reinstall original bsm and driven for a week. Then last week i wanted to check transmission to see if it requies oil change, so raised the suspension as soon as started the car then it gave catalyst error with cylinder 6 misfire. Luckly i had new spare coil so replaced the coil. Started the car and it didnt go over 1500rpm. So replugged main connector on the engine as it always gives trouble whenever i do any work. After that it started and running perfect. I drive the car in manual and sports mode without any issue.
