C5 Seats - which are the comfiest?

Post by Kimbo »

Currently on the lookout for a C5 Tourer but noticed that after around 2008 (bottom pic) the front seats look very sporty and possibly uncomfortable. I have this style in my Golf and although they are supportive, they are firm and grippy. I'm buying the car for the comfort of the suspension and the seats.

My question is, is it best to go for an older version car so you get the comfy seats or are they all the same ?

Thanks

When I saw your wanted notice I was tempted to offer my 2006 estate but it doesn't fit all your requirements despite being quite low mileage for the year and all now up together.

Have a look for a thread titled 'on my walk' , since then it's been brought right up to scratch mechanically and is clean and tidy and still has under 85k on the clock.

I find the seats on the X7 (MK III) to be the best on the C5 to date.

I've had the leather on the MK II and my current MK III with electric adjustments, which is very supportive and far more configurable than the previous models. There are a few more options on the electric seats with leather too on the X7.

There is still a lot of adjustment available on the manual non-electric version as you can see below:

As for the electric seats you also have in addition:

Height adjustable front and rear base seat (1a & 1b)
Reclining, independently adjustable upper & lower halves of the back rest (2 & 3).

The full leather electric seats also are heated and have a massage function for the driver, and 2 memorised positions. This function allows the seat configuration to be saved along with the external electric rear view mirror positions and the climate control settings at the time the memory position is saved. Handy if you have a second driver with their own preferred driving position and climate preferences.

As for the seats, they are very configurable and are very supportive in my opinion. They have been the most comfortable seats I have had to date and provide excellent lumbar support. I can drive 260 miles and get out perfectly relaxed. Of course everyone is different and has their own requirements. The only way you will know is to get in and spend some time adjusting the seat and then go for a drive in one. It may, like anything new, take a while to get used to. One thing you will probably notice from a MK I/II to a MK III is once you get in the car for the first time, you can feel very 'cocooned'. Everything has a more solid feel than previous models, with no plastic creaks and groans that previous models suffered with due to using cheaper plastics.

Thanks very much. These style seats in a BMW for example are all hard ridges so I'll take your word for it.

Gibbo - I'll have a look at your thread. Thanks.

Of course the fabric seats will be slightly softer.

I'm late to the party, but for what it's worth, the C5 X7's seats are superbly comfortable. IMHO, they're a great balance of good bolstering while being soft yet supporting. I have the partial leather versions, though. I would've preferred all-cloth seats but I believe they didn't come with a memory function. Or at least I couldn't find any.

The seats on x7 are for tight asses. Those bolsters are like giant Bingo Wings :-D The newer passat seats are similar. No thanks, horrible cramped things with tight interiors.
