I watched 'Bangers and Cash last night on tv, they had a 'shed find' Mini Cooper S with more rust that the Lada above, had to be moved on a pallet and fork lift truck, so rare he said it could fetch good money, I think the result was 18 grand but the phone rang just at the critical time,

I remember that one. They removed the VIN plate (to stop it from being nicked). It was green in colour, although that could have been the Verdigris!

If it's anything like the Cooper that was in the auction at the London Classic Car Show (with a £10,000 estimate) the VIN plate would have been kept as it would be the only part of the original car once the "restoration" was finished.

I will have to stop myself from fruitlessly searching to see If I can identify that one Zel, I think it has to stay in the category "whatsthisthen? the impossible one!"

I think you might lose your shirt on this one Chris :-D
First impressions to me are 4x4 with deep glove recess in dash, squarish centre consul for ICE, and the three switch mounts alongside the binnacle suggest Shogun but the steering wheel is more Vitara like. I have nothing to do this morning so I'll try and justify your faith but I tend to agree with Neil that it is likely to be a fruitless search. Ford Maverick has just occurred to me which did have the glove pockets but also a grab rail if I remember correctly so maybe not. Anyway don't hold your breath :-D

Steering wheel looks like Fiat, an early Panda maybe.

I know what it was, but not going to spoil the fun!

Astonishingly there were still a couple of bits visible of this last time I was up there a couple of years ago.

Nice pictures of 2003 Vinatge Zel, round about that time car theft was rife with Older cars often being the target especially old Vauxhalls and in particular the Astra, so a little quiz question

Does anyone know what was the only non-Vauxhall model to appear in the top ten of stolen cars in the uk in the Home Office's 2002 Car and Bike theft index?

This one
Spoiler: show
Rather a nice Steering wheel, particularly like the horn in the centre of the wheel in its isoceles trapezoid recess, and the conveniently placed 3 switch arrangement to the left of the clocks :-D

I've run out of time now with very little to show for it, as expected! However I did examine the pictures more closely and the picture of the back end reveals what looks to me like a rear transverse mounted 4 cylinder engine which, following Gibbo's input, made me think Fiat X19 but the dashboard is completely wrong. There are some VW steering wheels which could be right but I have not come across a dash that fits from the VW age. Also my thinking was that as Zel said the photo's were taken in 2003 then the car must be at least 20 years old to have reached that state of corrosion unless it had been in a fire, but the dash isn't melted so that does not seem likely. Anyway here's the picture of the engine, maybe someone else (spelled N E I L :-D ) could follow it up especially as we now know that the answer is already known by Zel :-D

If Zel could mark my paper which I submitted just before your post, with a little clue (preferably cyptic just for fun) if I am miles away with my possible suggestion, we might just get there :-D I couldnt resist a little ferret in the end :-D
