C5 X7 towbar wiring.

Post by davoxx »

My vin: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I have a unit - BSC B03 00 with the wiring loom, but it is not connected.
I also have a wiring loom - 9428-F4
There is a plug in the boot in the rear left like this one: Image
But I can't see where it fits the above unit: Image

Is this the wrong unit? And if so, can I just wire it up anyway (with a plug from a scrap car)? And where could I get such a plug?
why?

These trailer units may look the same, but they are not. You need the correct one for your vehicle and in this case it's PSA part 9688EL. Be aware that some online sellers may just quote this PSA part number against another trailer unit that is not correct. These have to be compatible with the electronic architecture of the vehicle and the electrical system to which it connects

Secondly you also have the incorrect harness. 9428F4 is not for this vehicle. You need 9428F6 (13 channel harness) and 9428C6 is the optional harness for powering equipment in a caravan like a fridge for example if required.

Yup, it was listed as 9688EL ...

Would it have 9688EL on the label instead of "BSC xxx xx"?

Probably not and that is the issue, as the 9688EL is a PSA part number. The BSC**** is also an identifier, but that can't be used to cross reference with PSA as only the PSA part number or equivalent part number is provided on replacement parts. The 96****** number near the barcode shown in the pictures is the international part number if you will, and if you were replacing a part, matching this number up would of course help - but as you don't already have the part this is made more difficult for you as you have nothing to compare it with.

But beware as I said - sellers will often rope manufacturer part together when they are not always correct for a specific vehicle. This is the minefield and pitfalls of buying ont he second hand market unfortunately.

If you email me on *[Email Removed - please use a Private Message for poster contact details]*, I will send you 2 photos I have taken of my genuine Citroen setup on my C5 X7. I don't know how to load them from my Apple Mac photo album. You are on the right track.

I'm not sure but should I splice from the plug in top pic for my after market wiring unit or should I splice into the wiring for the lamps themselves?

Has anyone got a list of colours and what they do, save me time on multi-metering the whole thing.

Seems like the unit is correct, so says my dealer.
The unit does a lot of models and their various options.
The issue is that you can't get the wiring loom separately, which is specific to the vehicle and it's options.
You have to buy the kit, and if they wiring loom gets damaged, you have to buy another kit.

If I could get plugs/sockets, I'd make the loom myself, it's at most 6 wires.

So my journey ends thus.
I'll install an after market controller.

The official towbar electrics are available separately, as is the trailer fuse box unit and the towbars. Only certain combinations are suitable for each vehicle though.

9428F6 is the 13 channel electrical harness for your vehicle.
Davoxx.PNG
£142.62 inc. VAT. from Citroen, so not sure who told you that. As I thgink I mentioned, there are additional supplementary harnesses also available for additional equipment like fridges.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread...

I need the instructions for the towbar 9427CW (swivel, C5 III sedan 2008) and the wiring harnesses 9428F6 + 9428C6. Does anyone happen to have them? Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything in Docbackup. Thank you!

Unfortunately, that part is not listed (9427CW) as a valid towing accessory for the C5 X7.

9428C6 has no available online instructions (supplied with kit)
9428F6 does have a fitting guide so I can send this.
