Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
A chap has just approached us and asked if they are our canoes outside!! When we told him they were he offered us £1400 cash for the two boats and the trailer so we bit his arm off and then gave him the other trailer and bike for his lad!! So Leaping Salmon here we come!!
"Just in time to pick up the bill Neil" "But don't worry dinner is on us!!"

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
I like the idea of a ginger beer, very famous five-ey and I think I will have ginger Beer, and a round of ham sandwiches.
I think their speciality is Crab, but never particularly keen to try it, could be delicious for all I know.
When we are done just a short walk up the hill and we are at the leaping Salmon.
Like the Berwick Lowry connection and there is also a decent crop of specialist shops along Bridge street including if like me you like bookshops this excellent little establishment...Slightly Foxed
Regards Neil

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
I do like a bookshop but the trouble today is time. I usually spend at least an hour browsing in a good shop and our train leaves in just under two hours so best course is not to go in at all!! I don't want to rush our last dinner so I'll just go straight up to the Leaping Salmon:

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
My thoughts too Need to set some sort of Lowry related Question though pondering that.
You may even be on the train by the time I get a chance to tackle the questions I'll try to think of a few so you and bob can join in. Hope you enjoyed the Northumberland weather I laid on for you today, and the Wooler to Berwick section was an enjoyable ride. Hope you manage window seats on the port side of your train on the way back. You'll get glimpses of the coast and holy Island which may tempt you this way again.
Right....off to the Leaping Salmon. We'll grab a table with a view of the river if we can, pity it doent have an alfresco balcony on that side.
cheers Neil

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
We're into the bar and that is what I call welcoming, they've put our pictures on the wall!!
Now I have a small confession to make, I looked at their menu online when we were down the road and it will have to be the burger for both of us and a pint of whatever Neil recommends:
We booked a left side table on the train so we should get all the magnificent views down the coast. Sunset won't be until we are down Grantham-Peterborough area so we should have a great ride. I told SWMBO that they are using a Bus Replacement service between Stevenage and Hertford so she is going to meet us at Stevenage with the bike rack on her roof!! Hence the candles I bought her in case we can't see how to strap the bikes down

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
Yes and your answer to the Lowry question is correct!
Mick apparently the trains is to have an unscheduled stop at Acklington on our virtual ride which is handy enough for me. I got myself an unnipped ticket printed out by that bloke with the engine named after him, should be fine.
Do you and Bob fancy something else from the Belhaven stable. One of the first cask ales which I came across and enjoyed was the quaintly named McEwans 80 /- . Famously available on Handpulls at the dive that was "The Haymarket" in Newcastle. Nice stuff.
Well Belhaven still do an ale of that ilk but according to that pic just bottles. But seeing as its virtual it is available on a handpull at the Leaping Salmon tonight for one night only. 80 bob for Bob, and yourself Mick?

Yes please, does that mean (CRYPTIC OVERLOAD WARNING!!!) a pint and a half could result in a very poorly octopus?

Neil and I were talking to the beekeeper here and I asked him about fishing the river. He said I should talk to Brian Palmer if I wanted to know about the fishing. The trouble is he didn't say anymore so:
I reckon I could pick him out in an ID parade in that garb!

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
Bit of a tradition for us Neil, we always make the last pint on a trip a pint of guinness. Are you going to join us, we just have time for a last pint and maybe one final track each on the jukebox. Bob, rather out of character, has picked this:

Yes I'll go well with this little lot which I will quickly scoff.
And from our ride today I see the leaping salmon has got in some of Doddington Dairy's finest for a three scoop desert.
So its a scoop of these
