Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
I was confused (nothing new) when Ottercops was mentioned. I thought that this was the insult thrown by Bilbo at the spiders.
Wrong as usual, it was Attercop - "Poison Head".
I'm glad I didn't join in, would have got lost in the wilderness - Branton came up as being near Doncaster, which seemed to be quite a diversion.

Regards NeilThis is Harden Quarry at Biddlestone with its characteristic red stone. It is one of only a few places in the UK where naturally red stone (a mica-porphyritic type of granite known as 'Red Whin') can be obtained.
Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 7 Question 5
Where in London could you walk on Harden-Red all the way from this isolated part of Northumberland?

On the road to Branton to the Bosk Cafe, beautiful countryside, but I caught site of a particularly small shiny red post box at (see question below) and as a fully paid up member of the DMC, had to stop and take a picture.
Regards NeilNow this is in the category of the old music exam paper question "Who wrote Handels Messiah?"
Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 7 Number 6

Sting...had he been Cycling on the Pennine Cycleway in North Northumberland, and been inspired to write this song in May in North Northumberland
Regards NeilFields of Gold green
You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of gold green
So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of goldgreen

On a day like this, gently drifting across the sky, with all the natural beauty in its May abundance of Northumberland laid out beneath you, looks like a wonderful thing to do.

Lovely Nature reserve just behing the BosK out of old sand and gravel workings.
I am going to take the Powburn A697 Route and should be at the hotel in around 45 mins, bit sooner if I put the electric assistance on.
I like to call in on this rusty wreck at Haugh Head on my way see how its getting on.

and on to the next bit....well knowing the area and it being a bit late now, I'm ready for the hotel in Wooler. You can pretend you are paragliding with this 360 degree view

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
Had some trouble during the day and missed out on the lemonade but made it to the BBQ which was admirably prepared and cooked by Neil by the time we got there!! Not so sure about the Marmite sausages, they tasted very nice but I think the cheese was a bit overwhelmed. The pork and apple were delicious as were the Northumbrians according to Bob. Loved the hot dog sauce too cheers Neil.
However we have at last made it to the Bosk and thrown down a hot chocolate and a delicious chocolate éclair. Mmmmmmmm
After repairing the puncture in the car park of the Bird in the Bush we had an altercation with a shepherd who believed his flock of sheep had right of way in the lane as it was a "shearing day". We decided to give way gracefully and had to sit out a twenty minute flock walk until we could resume. Thus we had little time for sightseeing in our hunger for the banger fest. During lunch we did discuss the local area and the quarrying which goes on in the area, so it wasn't too surprising that someone mentioned the use of the local stone in London which saved me having to research it! After that I was able to take note of the delightful postbox in Neil's question 6 which means , as far as I can tell we have answered 4 out of the 6 questions posed so far today:

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
are you as Supertramp would advocate going to "Take the Long Way Home" If you caught my previous post I'm doing the easier bit. I'll tackle the outstanding question and maybe on a reflection on the day come up with some more. I also need to organise suitably local beers. Spot on with the answers Mick!

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
There are two answers outstanding Neil! Yes we're tough Suvernors so we are going the whole hog (with our boosters of course), relieved to be free of the trailers for once so we want to make the most of it!! Having said that we expect to be at the Anchor by 7.45 for a quick change to be in the bar by 8.

Re: On Your Virtual Bike:The Pennine Cycleway (&quiz)
Correct on both questions Neil, I don't think I have ever come across a fortified vicarage before!!
Now I'm in the bar and pleased to see that they are still serving the sunday lunch menu. It seems from the review that it is a roast to die for so its the pork for me and plenty of crackling!!

While I wait for Neil's suggestions on the beer I'm going to throw a few practice darts and see if I can still hit the board!!
