Fairly whips down the South and North Tyne Mick Thats just what we have done today on our virtual bikes!

Deserts on the way lets see what they have got.. one more beer from Matfen ...I'll leave the choice to you
Another sheepdog Red Shep, A copper coloured best bitter, with a melon/orange nose and a hit of spice. Lovely berry flavour
or
a grumpy Bull Ferocious Fred? An almost black “extra” porter, velvet smooth with a pleasing bitter sweet finish, and a thick creamy tan head. Named after our grumpy bull Fred.
Haddock was lovely! Went very nicely with the beer! I'm going to have the award winning whisky and marmalade bread and butter pudding, and seing as we have been talking about it today Pumphreys Coffee Ice Cream

Was interesting, so many places close by that I have never visited, including Vindolanda and Hadrian's Wall.

I think the rich ice cream deserves to be seduced not sterilised so I'll go for the Bull Ferocious Fred and savour the creamy head.

Dont set off to walk Mick its 6m miles back to the Hotel :-D
Cars waiting after Jimmy's finished-excellent selection. Pour over the maps over breakfast...you might want to visit the desolate ottercops or maybe do a bit of canoeing. Local knowledge may help. Excellent day today hope everyone reading our little tale enjoyed it to.

Night all

Day 6 done, Next Leg Day 7 Bellingham to Wooler

Main Towns Villages and Hamlets Bellingham West Woodburn, Elsdon, Holystone, Harbottle, Alwinton, Alnham , Prendwick, Branton, Ilderton, Wooler
The possible coffee/tea/eating places in no particular order

Elsdon The Old School Cafe, The Bird in the Bush Pub.
Harbottle The Star Inn
Alwinton the Rose and Thistle Pub
Biddlestone......Picnic
Branton...The BosK

From the list The bird in the Bush has its own Brewery "The First and Last",

Up to you if you would like a pub meal at the Rose and Thistle probably around the right timing afeter a strenuous ride out of Elson..or sizzle those sausages al fresco having bought some buns at the Co-op in Bellingham!

Then call in at the Bosk for tea and cake in the afternoon, with a choice of route up to Wooler
1 Via Powburn, mooch around the couple of antiques units next to the garage, and up the A697 to Wooler about 9 miles,
2 or follow the NCR 68 through some rougher terrain to Wooler.
Maybe see how you feel after a recharge at the Bosk!
The rough Guide
Day 1 Derby to Whaley BridgeImage
Day 2 Whaley Bridge to SlaithwaiteImage
Day 3 Slaithwaite to BarnoldswickImage
Day 4 Barnoldswick to DentImage
Day 5 Dent to Alston Image
Day 6 Alston to BellinghamImage
Day 7 Bellingham to Wooler
Day 8 Wooler to Berwick

The map of the route if you choose the overlay on the OS map on the Sustrans Site can take it down to a very detailed level.

Morning all, had a bit of a lie in, consequences of the pack of sheepdogs I think!! :-D Bob just woke me in fact to tell me he had been asking the locals about our BBQ for later. They suggested we talk to the Vicar and he suggested we could set it up on the grass in front of the old chapel at Biddlestone which is roughly halfway on our route:
BFTW
BFTW
BFTW
BFTW
SO if you chaps are happy with that we can work it in with Neil's recommendations for the rest of the ride:

New Tea room at Bird in the Bush for elevenses
BFTW
BFTW
BFTW
BFTW
then

Harbottle-Star Inn (Pub)...just started doing coffees/cakes for a lemonade

and then to

Branton- very nice new Coffee/Cake/Food just opened The Bosk
BFTW
BFTW
and on to our B&B TBA

I have many peoples wanting me today so my input may be a little intermittant until we get to Branton but I'll do what I can!!

Quick answer to D7Q1:
Spoiler: show
It was a picture of a BSA Gold Star
It was named to commemorate BSA and Chuck "Feets" Minert's success in the 1956 Catalina Grand Prix
