Lancashire is of course a hotbed of cricket tradition. James mentioned James Anderson who is a Burnley lad, but its fascinating to just have a look at the Lancashire Leagues and the calibre of player they had as professionals

Wiki lists these, its a who's who of great cricketers. I wondered as the afternoon teas and the spares were wolfed down at the Pavillion at Colne, whether any of the "greats" turned out for little Colne CC. Havent dug round to find out yet.

Wonder if you remember Bryan Robson Mick. Not the Man U and England Captain, but a former Newcastle Number 9 who also played with West Ham and Sunderland and even made 15 Appearances for Chelsea scoring 3 goals.

He was also born in the same place as the player correctly identified, and had the same sort of hair challenges in his later career.

And now I have to deliver the news. That phone call was asking for my assistance in a real world crisis which has cropped up. It means I will quite probably have to arrange a helicopter to pick me up at the B&B tomorrow morning and buzz down to Berkhamstead where I will be helping a mate replace rear discs and pads on the MX3 in order to permit him to visit his sick father. I will of course fly back to Yorkshire in the evening to rejoin the ride. Fortunately Bob will be able to take my bike on his trailer if someone else would please tow the canoe trailer tomorrow and I will then be fully equipped to ride again on Friday. Any suggestions?
It won't affect this evenings plans of course!

And yes Neil I remember "Pop" Robson as the boys in the shed used to call him. I have a vivid memory of him flying down the wing and slide tackling the corner flag at Highbury!!

Mick I have just installed myself in a room at the Stone Trough, just having a chill and a catch up, might throw up the odd gem after reviewing my ride today. That was a substantial afternoon tea at the pavillion, but should we do something like go for an Indian (if there are any) or have something at the Stone trough and head up to McCulloughs Bar later.
