Hi Guys
I am currently looking at a 4007 from an independent dealer, the problem I have is that the service book has gone missing. The previous owner has stated that it was serviced at least a couple of times at Arbury Peugeot of Lichfield. I have contacted them and they have replied that they cannot do anything until after lockdown (whenever that may be)???
I know you guys managed to get me the build spec for my 308cc, where my local dealer had failed.
Is there anyway I can obtain service records for the 4007? At the moment I only have the reg number but I am sure the dealer may let me have the VIN if it meant I could get copies of the service history.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
PAUL

Re: Peugeot 4007 Service History Recovery
Hi Paul
You already have your VIN - it will be on your vehicle registration document and usually also on the bottom outside lower left cutout of the windscreen. it will begin V F 3.
Unfortunately, we can't access the vehicle's service history as that is stored on PSA's systems and would breach data protection rules giving that out as I suspect it may contain personal details of the previous owner who had the work done. You should be able to get the dealership to provide you with a computer printout of all the recorded official repairs and servicing that it has had done though - although they may charge you a small fee for the printing. I had mine printed out years ago on a C5 as I wanted to know the history of what had been done on it. I was also able to get copies of the invoices for work I had paid them to do though easily enough.
But as you say, not much you can do until lockdown is eased.

Thanks mark
I am aware of where VIN's are located but seeing as I don't yet own the car and it is located 100 miles away, I don't have the V5, nor am I able to see the windscreen from here
Maybe I will try the local dealer once they are open.
All the best Paul

Ah, that would help of course...
I could of helped you out with the VIN from the vehicle Reg. until recently, but that wonderful institution they call the EU have put the kaibosh on that now due to their Data Protection legislation.
So looks like you'll have to call them when they are open.

The GDPR came into force nearly two years ago. Why should it only now be having an effect on finding the VIN from a reg number?

Re: Peugeot 4007 Service History Recovery
Because it was not immediately obvious and it's taken this amount of time for developers to seal the breaches in the APIs that query the data. They have to ensure that when the results are returned, the specific VIN data is not sent back along the data stream to the browser, where it can be intercepted and extracted.
So although the data can still be seen by licensed organisations who pay for access to it, they have stopped 'other' ways of obtaining it. It has taken this amount of time for them to a) become aware of the loophole and b) fix it.
So I am talking here about the 'other' ways of obtaining the data that was used by many of us that have now been effectively closed up. As the reg returns not only the VIN, and all the car details, but depending on the API used it can also return status of the vehicle and other info that is classified as personal data.

Presumably that puts an end to aftermarket spares vendors processing your reg?

No Chris, because they are only supplying basic details about the model (when they get it right) and nothing else. Some of the data I am talking about contained the SORN status, insurance status, and other such details that go beyond that.

Re: Peugeot 4007 Service History Recovery
Check out the car it will tell you its real service history and lots more about his previous owners, don't go by the paper receipts and service book, dealers always throw away the bad pages for bodywork, broken wheels, serius engine work. Get someone that knows those cars and let him inspect it. Stand aside and watch the sales person sweat, hahah
