After what I thought was a great first day I had a good rest and a cracking full english to start the day. However I didn't see Neil at breakfast and thought maybe he went for an early morning paper hunt? :-D
A bit late getting on the road this morning due to the boatman at the reservoir forgetting our arrangement and not turning up until 10!! So by the time we'd released and dried the canoes and reloaded our trailers it was 10.45. While that was happening Bob had a quick look at the route ahead and suggested we might stop for coffee at https://georgeanddragoncharlesworth.co.uk/ and then carry on to the lake at Dunford Bridge for a picnic lunch! Ok by me so anyone wants to join us is most welcome. A fair bit of climbing to do today so we're on the way!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Just pondering Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Number 9, got breakfast brought up to me so I could watch Ashes to Ashes. Getting on the bike now so see if I can catch you up. I think the jewel on the route may be Holmfirth and a few hills up and down. I'm quite familiar with the Pennine Manor Hotel right on the top overlooking the M62. Once youve stayed there you notice it every time you drive past it on the M62. At least the first stretch the next day is all downhill :-D

I sort of thought to see the "Beauty" in Day 1 Question 9 you and bob would have had to divert to The Greater Manchester Transport Museum right in Manchester itself.

I'll shove my info found out about "101" in a couple of minutes.

I think LEN101's demise was around 1987...but maybe there's some deviousness in the question :-D

Right there Mick look after my bowler while I go to the netty :-D
and bring me up to date on the route!

I think I'll have to reread the question with my Americano and fruit scone with butter jam and clotted cream.

I've read the chapter and verse on 101 which looks like its here, and havent made the link yet with the Pennine Cycleway!

A mega apology for possibly causing all the wild geese in Derbyshire to have been chased to death!!! I have just been trying to retrace the path I followed yesterday when setting Q9 for the journey. I can only think that I must have floated over or even clicked an active pop up link for the Transport Museum without realising  while searching for something interesting in Low Leighton. I remember seeing the Manchester Museum symbol on a pin flag just below the central road fork in Low Leighton and consequently believed that to be the location of 101. I cannot find it now so I assume I "last night's pubbed" up    . I am genuinely sorry and Bob has issued me the punishment of having to tow both our trailers up today's climbs!! :-D
Having got that off my chest I can now reveal that we have stopped in Hadfield to stock up for the picnic and will be on our way shortly! :)

Those Bus Geezers really know their stuff with the detail on 101. Even down to the surviving chassis with photographic evidence :-D

Like me you must have whizzed through Buxworth and New Mills. I may do a bit catching up.

I see on the bit heading over towards Yorkshire many reservoirs are passed and carting canoes with you I'm sure you will not want to miss the opportunity to use them. So if we head for a Rendezvous in Holmfirth at a hostelry or cafe or both that would be good for me. The best Western up at Pennine Manor is Ok but a touch isolated. If you can find another Mrs Cannybody's B&B that would be fine.

While in Hadfield we met a farmer who is taking a trailer of Hay up to Pikenaze Hill and he agreed to follow us to the reservoir just up the road and then pop our bikes on the back and drop them off at Pikenaze so we can paddle and porter our way there. Hopefully the picnic will be at the end of the paddling about 3.30 I should think, then full steam to Holmfirth. I'll get the catering and hostel manager (Bob) to sort out some venues. :-D

Bob has come up with The Travellers Rest on the Slaithwaite Road just North of Meltham for dinner. What do you think:

He felt we wouldn't have too far to go from the B&B, maybe ride to the B&B and cab back and forth to dinner?
:-D

Meanwhile tea and cake in Holmfirth to be sorted :)

5 Star reviews all the way for that should be excellent.
Mick I have particular dietary requirements when visiting yorkshire.....I was typing this as your post came in.

Just found out there's a Vineyard in Holmfirth...who knew? It is of course famous for Sid's Cafe and the setting for Last of the Summer Wine. Yorkshire and West Yorkshire around that area always conjures up Fish and Chips with scraps and a Tea-Cake (bread bun/stottie to you and me. It would be sacrilege to do anything else for me. So I just need a bit of a "put-off" a short nap at the B&B and then set forth for some Yorkshire Ale and a visit to a "Fisheries" preferably in a small hut for haddock and chips, maybe with mushy peas and curry sauce.

Holmfirth....why not do the touristy thing? Either Sids Cafe or the Wrinkled Stocking!

Sid's sounds good to me!! I got waylaid for a bit there chatting to Betty's mate Elsie who told me some very interesting things about our route, although she did suggest we had bypassed the best pub on the route already today!! Having seen the array at the bar of the traveller's rest it seems a grand plan to find a decent fishery and then call in to check those pumps on the way back to the B&B. We have got a handline in the canoe but somehow trout just doesn't do it for me!! See you at Sid's about 4.30?

Happy to join you and Bob at the Travellers rest which looks excellent, but I'll pass on dinner and satisfy my Yorkshire Fish and Chip compulsion (out of the paper/polystyrene tray) by slipping out for an hour or so :-D

On to Quiz question number 2. I hadnt realised by in my haste to catch up earlier I zoomed past the HQ of these
Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 2 Number 2
Where and by whom(precise) are these made?

Yes I should have slowly pedalled my way to Sids for 4.30 :-D
