Xsara Picasso Parking sensors

Hi folks,

I have factory fitted sensors which have never worked since I've had the car, It beeps when reverse is engaged then nothing
Does anyone know if I can deactivate them somehow to stop the "Beep" when selecting reverse?
I'm thinking it may be an option via Lexia but I haven't got that yet and wondered if there was another way?

It will likely be a 2-step process - first telling the BSI that they are not installed (using a Lexia) and then locating the Parking Assistance ECU and disconnecting the connectors.

Before doing that though - when / if you get a Lexia kit, you could ascertain what the problem is and troubleshoot it first?

Yes I could actually remedy the fault with the help of Lexia, wasn't even going to bother with that and just disconnect it. As I have lots of spare time, why not?

Hi again,
Further to this, I have decided to have a go at fixing this issue. Lexia kit coming from ED during the week as it's back in stock.
Looking at the repair steps on Service Box, should I need to replace the sensor(s) it says they have to be the same colour as the bumper, anyone any idea why this would be the case?
On a side note, when buying the kit from ED, I said that I only needed updates that is recommended by you guys on here, Jim gave me up to 7.57 which I have installed, is this the latest that is recommended?

Ok, so depending on the vehicle, the sensors may be painted to match the bumper. Other vehicles may not have painted bumper areas where these are fitted. So the sensors are generally supplied ready for priming and painting - depending on vehicle. There is no mandatory requirement to have them painted of course.

When you get your Lexia kit, don't upgrade it past 7.58 for the moment as this will cover vehicles up to 2013.

Before you do anything, run a global test on the vehicle, then when it has finished, it will list any faults. The parking Assistance ECU will likely be called AAS.

Read the fault code and put them up here. If there are one or more sensors faulty, it will tell you which ones. Sometimes the actual wiring harness to the sensors can get worn through from rubbing against another component leading to a short. Anyway let us know how you get on.

I will, of course, update this thread as I go along, here's me thinking it was a compatibility issue with using a different coloured sensor rather than just cosmetic.
Ok I have 7.57 installed now, should I ask Jim for update to 7.58?

Ok, I have quickly tried out my newly acquired Lexia kit, I have it on a netbook so not ideal so will get a decent lappy for it.
I managed to run a "Global test" as suggested by Marc and it showed up 2 faults, i'll list what I seen as I didn't get a chance to look at all the sub sections under the respective faults, I will interrogate Lexia further over the next few days.

1. Parking sensors show as a fault as suspected with it saying something like "Internal right hand sensor fault"

2. Injection section showed as a fault showing the following: Permanent fault-Preheating relay circuit, relay supplied and plugs never supplied.
Temp fault: Clutch switch signal, No signal or signal incoherent.

Now I have just written these down from the netbook when attached to the car, is there a way to generate a fault report to view offline as it were using lexia? I am struggling to see all the Lexia options as I don't think it all fits my screen due to the resolution and my aging eyesight. I have looked in "Reports" but nothing shows.

There is a report section from the main menu. When you exit, it should ask if you want to save the info, then you can pull off the report that will list the session history.

Ignore the glow plug fault - we all get that one.

The parking assistance fault is telling you which sensor is knackered. It should say front or rear. The 'inner' means one of the 2 inside sensors - either left or right.

So how does the ecu know which sensor is faul ty or not connected

^ The parking assistance ECU.^ It powers the sensors and obtains feedback from them to determine obstacle distances and transfers this data to the display systems. As each sensor has its own connection, the ECU knows from the signal returned which ones are working or not.

The sensors can be either the painted or non-painted type and the 2 should never be mixed. They should be replaced with like for like otherwise it will cause operating problems.
