Re: Passing the Time
The satellite tracker has been updated and includes streetview to show where to look in the sky. Clouds cleared last night so went for a look, plenty of stars but only one satellite and not one of the expected ones, it was tracking at 90° to the expected path an all on it's own.

How about watching Peacock Spiders? They are very colourful (we have not yet been able to replicate their colouration), tiny (about the size of a chia seed), dance!, and are quite amenable as pets;

Re: Passing the Time
I will be starting a new thread at midnight tonight with a specific target to achieve in 24 hours to celebrate 75th anniversary of VE day tomorrow. I propose that we rename the FCF as the Fantastic Celebratory Forum for 24 hours to properly celebrate that joyous day in 1945, 75 years ago tomorrow. It will need as many people to contribute as possible to achieve the target of 75 relevant posts by midnight tomorrow night. So please join in with that and help the FCF celebrate properly!!

Re: Passing the Time
Midnight! You should be tucked up in bed counting sheep!
I was out after midnight last night counting satellites.
1 And going in the wrong direction. Took a birthday present for my son, he works nights and was a surprise for when he came home at 07:00.
Except he was home, my car outside tipped me off. All in darkness so asleep. Was still going to creep in and leave it but his key was in the door. Thwarted once again. Oh well.
Two excursions revealed only the one satellite, I think they are avoiding me. Cloudy tonight so no venturing outdoors for me.

Re: Passing the Time
The FCF certainly has helped me pass the time today!! A nice drive out this morning, then excellent puzzle action all afternoon and great interaction this evening on the jukebox. Thanks everyone for joining in, it really makes this a great community to be part of, and we've still possibly got Zel's update to come!! Three cheers for the FCF Hip Hip.......

Re: Passing the Time
Just to let you know that one of the Osprey eggs has hatched this afternoon. Watching Aila (the female Osprey) feeding this chick is incredible; that beak is wickedly sharp and yet, when she is feeding little flakes of fish, she is so careful and gentle.

Re: Passing the Time
There were some exotic coffee recommendations floating around here earlier. I had one but couldn't find it. Girlfriend used to make it and then later wife also took it up:
Yield: serves 8
Ingredients:
3 cups strong coffee
1 peel of navel orange (preferably in one long spiral)
1 peel of lemon (preferably in one long spiral)
12 cloves
2 sticks cinnamon
1⁄2 cup brandy
1⁄4 cup orange liqueur
Instructions
Stud orange peel with cloves and place with lemon peel in a small saucepan. Add cinnamon, brandy, and liqueur and gently warm, without boiling, over low heat for 5 minutes.
Strain brandy mixture into a large bowl; discard cinnamon and lemon peel. Using a long-handled match, carefully flame brandy mixture.
When flame subsides, pour hot coffee in a steady stream into brandy mixture over orange peel. Strain into small cups and serve.
Coffee best made in a Don Pedro. Son smashed mine. Replacement in my Amazon basket ready for shipping - one day.
Coffee not necessarily better although I convince myself that it is. Just amusing watching it

Re: Passing the Time
I made some coffee clotted cream ice cream at the weekend. It contained quite a bit of instant coffee, a shot of espresso, some freshly ground coffee, and some coffee essence. The verdict was that there was just about enough coffee in it, but next time leave out the espresso and increase all the other coffee related ingredients
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

Instant for me but I rarely drink coffee, I used to enjoy coffee at the Berni Inns when they were still in business, they used to do Irish and another with Kahlua which I really liked

Re: Passing the Time
I used to love the Berni Inns liqueur coffees too. I always had a Calypso which was using Tia Maria but these days if I make one at home I use Kahlua which is just slightly more tangy for me!!

Re: Passing the Time
Just got home from a very tiring day sorting out a friend's decking for her. It was in a rather bad state but I managed to get it looking pretty good, just need to wait for the next dry day to get some deck varnish on it and it will look great for another couple of years I hope!

An update on the Ospreys. The eldest one (Doddie, with ring JJ6) has been sighted at Avalon Marshes, Somerset, catching fish. He was last seen at Loch Arkaig on 15th August.
