C5 X7 Nav dash panel

Post by elcustardo »

Hi,

Going to change the stereo in my C5.
looking around for the top dash panel form a nav equipped car. Emailed a few folks breaking cars but no real joy and the only one on Ebay is £150
Are these rare parts that are commanding this sort of price?

Yes they are and you need to be very sure that you get the correct screen. They are not all the same and depending on which Telematics system you are upgrading to, will determine the type of screen you need. The Navidrive 3D system and the RT6 system require Hi Res screens, which are different to the earlier MyWay (RNEG) systems which are not. They are not interchangeable.

Ok, so just need to take a step back here.

Be very careful what you are intending to fit. The OEM Head Units are designed to work with the vehicle's systems. Replacing the Head Unit with an aftermarket variable will often result in loss of functionality (Parking Assistance, Trip and Computer functionality, the ability to configure certain vehicle options, etc.), so many here who have gone for an upgrade tend to keep it within the OEM range of factory fitted options. This ensures that everything carries on working with a bit of configuration.

You have an RD4 system. So possible options are to RT4, MyWay (RNEG) or RT6.

I got it at a good price,so resale if its an issue wont be too bad.
Baulking more at paying (to me) a massive premium for the dash panel.
However not seeing any for sale except the one at £150 on Ebay.
Theres a big scrappy outside Edinburgh so I'll maybe try them though their online doesnt show many C5s in stock, I dont think they list all cars

If you are talking about the large multifunction displays, they won’t work with any other audio systems other than the PSA Head Units. They contain ECUs that are designed to talk to the vehicles systems via a multiplexed network.

Its a head unit and display set up with cabling for the C5 (Its come out of a C5)
Think the sensible thing to do is fit it with the dash panel left off (assuming the screen can sit/be held down temporarily) to see how its works before paying out that eye watering fascia money.

The headunit runs on Android. So you get the features of an Android unit (DVD,Bluetooth, nav, screen mirroring, camera inputs etc) but its designed to slot into a C5 with separate head unit & screen.

Hopefully found a dash panel. Got a seller offering one for £30 posted! When I sent the initial enquiry I sent an image of the part. So should be correct

I can't help you much with this as it is a non OEM system. I therefore can't tell you what the exact impact of fitting this will have on the vehicle when your remove the RD4 unit. But you will lose steering wheel control functions for audio controls and other information that is currently displayed on your small multifunction display, plus alerts and messages, parking assistance info (which you don't have), outside temperature, and any settings menus for the vehicles systems.

Apparently these have the ability to do steering when controls (one of the reasons I haven't bothered previously with aftermarket)
Appears you teach the head unit what each button push does.
From the listing the previous owner said their parking sensors worked too. As you say,I dont have them so no worry either way.

For that to work it will need a good interface to the steering wheel controls, so do let us know how you get on.

Would certainly be interesting to others who want to replace the standard head unit.

I'm quite happy with my RT6 unit but I'll be very interested in your progress.
